The Mrs. just woke me up to tell me that coming up shortly on CNN is a segment on "sports, gambling...how bad it really is."

Essentially the bottom line was a study in which 1.4% of Division 1 student athletes have said they accepted money to alter the score in a game.

The study that I would like to see is the one about "Game Officials" altering the outcome of games for money or to make their conference money in out of conference games IE last years F$U-Florida game. I now worry more about "game officials" than players throwing games. LT

Gator- You are right. That FSU-Florida game was the worst officiated game I've ever seen. The officials changed the outcome of that game by a minimum of 28 points. I am convinced they got paid by someone for that outcome. And it still took a miracle for FSU to pull out the win. Everyone I knew had Florida, and they were a home dog, if I remember correctly. Maybe the mob conspired to keep that line down, and had the officials in their back pocket. Who knows.

Illini, the Mob was the ACC. If F$U had lost that game the ACC would not have had a team in the BCS. That would have cost the ACC a 13 million dollar paycheck. If Florida wins the game they would have gone to the SEC title game over Georgia because they had beaten UGA and were within 5 places in the polls at the time. The ACC got the extra 13 mil and caused UF to miss out on the SEC title game.Integrty, my ass! Where was the NCAA over the gambling on F$U games of F$U qb Adrian Mc Pherson? There has been complete silence from the NCAA on this issue. Bobby Bowden and former director of compliance for the NCAA Bob Minnix knew of Mc Phersons gambling on games the summer before the 02 season. Yet Bowden still let him play. Bowden was told by former F$U players that Mc Pherson was betting on F$U GAMES WAY BEFORE HE KICKED HIM OFF THE TEAM. LT

I heard Bobby referred McPherson to his bookie and he had a big settle figure to handle, before he could kick him off.

Yes coach, sometimes the bad guys are in suits. But when you look for motivation, and the ability to influence people/zebras to make your objective, you can find the culprits. The gambling students is merely the distraction game. How much revenue did the NBA gain by having official neglect to start clock with .4 second left. Is the backup timekeeper there to correct the official? No, to keep time in case the zebra does not. Money is the root of all evil, and influences the outcome of sporting events. What I would give to be the fly on the wall during one of these power meetings...OF
