same as it always is

well for people that "succeed" (making your own personal definition of success) better than most in general

what you got from the neck up

not from the neck down

bottom line in general beyond the banking shit

government is trying to save industries that just can't cut it in the global economy anymore or for the wages people in the US want to do it....

the grunt working/manufacturing type jobs are increasingly a thing of the past and we either gonna have to get better educated to stay ahead of the curve from the neck up or we will see america's standard of living continue to drop...

if we continue to dwell on the past and try to save jobs that the rest of the world can do for much cheaper or better than us it will only lead to more long term pain for our country

computers were the in-thing after the 1970s-1980s trubbles, so I would guess at jobs in new technology if you want to get ahead.

The main one that springs to mind is alternative energy like solar wind and wave stuf, probably energy conservation/insulation as well.

The widest range of opportunities for Americans in the coming decade (and beyond) will be to become actively involved with businesses that do business with countries south of the current US border.

At the moment, that mainly means helping with distribution south, but in coming decade it will include helping American businesses expand their operations southward.

Becoming fluent - both written and oral - in Spanish is the smartest investment any American can make for their financial and personal future success

And to piggy back on RR's correct observation that the health care industry will continue to be a growth business - combining a fluent bilingual education with a health care profession will provide someone with double opportunities.

One of the greatest needs in countries south of the US border is the need for improved health care providers and outlets. And that demand will most certainly be met during the coming ten to 20 years.
