The Jets do a lot of things well on offense but they didn't have the defense the last coupla years to threaten in the playoffs. I did a qwik chek on the numbers and it looks like their opponents are completing a lot of shorter passes and running a lot of plays. The Jets don't get many INT's either. It looks to me like the secondary isn't challenging the quicker routes, which could mean they need secondary help but it probably points to a fundamental flaw in their defensive approach. It may be that no player can help that team until the Defensive Coordinator goes.

I see the Patriots as the strength
of the AFC East. They needed help in their
defensive secondary, and they have really addressed their problems with the additions of
Rodney Harrison, and especially Roosevelt
Colvin. This guy is pure stud.

Big John, I hate to rain on your parade, but the Jets just don't seem to be getting it together for a good 2003 season.
I think Herman Edwards has done a credible job - especially with the spectacular season end last year, winning the last two games against the Pats and the Pack to back door it into the playoffs.
However, in my opinion, the front office has failed miserably, losing both PK Hall and KR Morton for a big hit against special teams - and picking up Dan Stryzynski as Punter - what a joke, and then, also losing Coles, the WR and Anderson, the RB, all of this, without, in my judgement, equal or better replacements being found. By the way, has Jumbo been re-signed? Will they try to replace Morton with Moss on both kick and punt returns?

Time will tell, but I just don't see the Jets as being a dominant force in the AFC East - not with the mess the front office seems to be creating!

Good luck!

With the 3 strong teams in the Conference that the Jets have to play twice, there is a chance the Jets could go 1-5 or 2-4 in conference play. The preseason O/U line is 9.5. Looks like an Under to me.

I agree that the Jets could have another strong season ahead of them, and they just might be a strong contender for the Lombardi this time around. Last year's experience under Pennington's belt might make up for the Jet's lackluster offseason, if you're lucky. You can mark down Nov. 9th as a loss, though, bud.

Hey Oren1, why does the NFL love the Raiders over the Jets so much - as I read your comment on the 11/9 game, I remembered a scheduling anomaly I recognized in the Jets program - that they've been to Oakland every year since '99, but the last time Oakland went to the Big Apple was in '97.
Interesting!

Good luck!

bblight - If you're asking why the Jets always seem to have to go to Oakland, it's all based on where you finish the year before. GB had to consistently go to Dallas in the mid-nineties. Only because of how they finished.

I always wondered that myself. I'm just glad they have to return to Oakland again this year, it will be fun!
