Its good idea to have a backup. I pull out the laptop when these kinds of issues pop up.

I finally rid myself of them this week and switched to Bellsouth DSL.

Two advantages:

1) Dedicated 1.5 mgs d/l speed----no sharing my bandwidth.

2) Service includes 20 free hours/mth of dial up service in case the DSL goes in the crapper.

ZZZ found the perfect fix---set your DNS servers to 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2

Works like a charm

I'm not real computer literate but followed the guidelines provided by ZZZ, but stopped before entering the DNS numbers for fear of screwing something up. Before doing so, would like to understand how we know these numbers work for everyone. ZZZ mentioned getting the DNS number from doing a Comcast search or from a forum. Any additional clarification would be appreciated. I don't even know what DNS means. Thanks in advance.

Ted:

Don't be worried. You can always go back and check the box that says do it automatically.

DNS = Domain Name Server
ISPs (Internet Service Providers) own them, and they use them to tell your computer the IP address of a website you put in - like www.therx.com = 69.20.60.150. I think thats how they work.
Comcast's suck right now so use the ones they mentioned above until it's fixed (4.2.2.1, 4.2.2.2), or, hell, just keep using those. They are owned by Verizon, and they are faster anyway.

Anyone else having trouble in the last hour that use Comcast high speed? I can't get Betcris, BetGrande or even Yahoo to come up. This happened one day last week as well. This site, TheGreek and Cascade come up no problem for me.

it has been horrible last few nights at about 8:00 central for an hour or more.

cant get ebay, yahoo, and other sites or at least its super super slow...

Thank you very much. I'll give it a try and no longer be worried that I might screw up something. As you said, if I have problems, I can always reset it back to automatically. Much appreciated.

Unbelievable. Instructions given by ZZZ and confirmed by TTinco with further clarification from christof works perfectly. I followed the instructions given in this thread exactly and entered the DNS numbers as specified and I can now get not only to every offshore site but faster as well. Highly recommend trying it for everyone that has Comcast and is struggling with problems the last few days. Everything is working great as I write this, so if your having trouble try to follow ZZZ's instructions. I have Windows XP. Would imagine it would work with earlier versions as well.

I need additional help if any one can assist me. My wife's computer is an G4 Apple Computer with a dual processor that uses OS9 and OSX operating systems and is connected using the same Comcast cable modem that I use with my PC. They are both connected using a router. Is there anyone using an Apple that can tell me any steps to take similiar to what instructions ZZZ provided for the PC. The Apple is unable to connect to the internet at all while this Comcast issue remains a problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

If you are using a router are there additional steps that need to be taken besides changing the DNS numbers?
