Colts and Stokley agree on new 5-year contract
The best season of Brandon Stokley's NFL career will be rewarded with a new contract from the Indianapolis Colts.
Rick Smith, Stokley's agent, confirmed Saturday the veteran wide receiver and the Colts have agreed in principle to a five-year deal. Financial terms were not immediately available.
Stokley, 28, could have become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. His contract resolution comes less than two weeks after the team signed five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Marvin Harrison to a seven-year, $67 million extension.
Stokley is in the midst of a breakout season. Working primarily out of the slot in the Colts' three-receiver formation, he has 58 receptions for 936 yards and nine touchdowns, all career highs.
Stokley signed with the Colts as an unrestricted free agent before the 2003 season.
