I was looking for a different game Wil...Although you sort of blew up the question with that answer...The game I was referring to, was more historic and further back...

Notre Dame has pulled this stunt quite a few times actually...In reality their is more than one correct answer...

I gues by the way I worded the question it does leave your answer incorrect...."destroying their opponent" , ok that was a technicality...

You must be talking about the USC game in 1985 when the Irish upset the highly ranked Trojans 37-3. I think the head coach was Jerry Faust.

Also their most famous green jersey game came under Dan Devine in 1977 against USC when the team captains emerged from a Trojan horse and led the team on the field wearing the green. Notre Dame went on to win the national championship that season and wore green jerseys until Faust took over the program in 1981.
