With all the research going in college football, it's time to check-in on the Coaches health issues (known, looming, or speculative) including the current weight of the "Heavy Weight Division". Note: All weights are (+ or -) 20 lbs depending on relative humidity & wind direction.

Top Five:

1. Mark Mangino:..........Worked his way down to 387 Lbs last spring but ballooned back to 465 lbs.

2 Ralph "Fridge" Friedgen............Current Weight........... 460 lbs........Can't stay away from those Maryland Crab Cakes

3. Charlie Weiss...........................................................457 lbs and wavering. Odds are suggesting he could end-up # (1) by year-end.

4 Dennis Green...........................................................452 lbs......They don't call him "Redwood Tree" for nothing.

5. Phil Fullmer.............................................................435......Ol Phil, who wants to get back into coaching, is working his way into the "svelte" category.

I did not list those in the low-400 lbs and high 300's lbs............too numerous.

Rumor has it, these guys have "hidden" clauses in their contracts allowing for food subsidies in the event of their firing which places a tremendous burden on the Universities.

Les Miles still has hemorrhoids issues & the deep-rooted health of Urban Meyer is still unknown. We purposely avoided Mental Health...too complex. More on this subject later..................................

I never was quite as impressed with Mangino as an offensive coordinator as others are. The year OU won the NC with Mangino as OC, teams were catching on to OU's offense in the second half of the season, and Mangino never did make adjustments to the opposing D's. It got to where I knew what the Sooners were going to run before they ran it, which is never good. OU basically won the NC that year playing outstanding defense down the stretch. Mangino had one good year at Kansas when they had Reesing at QB. But again, much of that team's success was because of their defense with Bill young coming from tOSU as their DC. Plus a very soft schedule in which they got to avoid OU and Texas.

There was some good defensive talent on that Kansas team, in fact both current Denver Broncos corners Aqib Talib & Chris Harris Jr. played together in that Jayhawk defensive backfield as well. Talib was actually the first Jayhawk selected as a first round pick in 15 years, drafted 20th overall by Tampa Bay in 2008. Harris was an UDFA a couple years later, but scored a big contract with the Broncos last year.

I saw Bret Bielema on the SEC Network (Coaches Roundtable show). He is a HOG! And that has nothing to do w/ the Razorbacks! He's gotta be 330 or more.

Maybe just lucky or during the times. I never had a coach who was "obese" or just a fat ass during my high school or college career. Lordy, I had assistant coaches who would out run me during sprints and give me hell.

Guess my point is an OUT OF SHAPE COACH giving a player the business about being in shape is not a good example in my book.

Ain't about age...Unless?..........before some PC whore brings that up.

Right on target Sooner....Mangino had that one great season at Kansas which kept his "stock/market value" in the upper echelon(s) and his weight over-looked.

My Source puts Bielema at 345 lbs; Because of his height (6'-2") he carries his weight better than, say a Mangino or a Weiss type. Sadly, I'm afraid that the
Arkansas (Fayetteville) food will do a number on him. They say the Pork Ribs and Bar BQ sauce in the area are mouth-watering.
