While the college football nation had to believe in the build up towards the SEC Showdown between the No. 1 LSU Tigers and then-No.2 Alabama Crimson Tide that they were in the midst of the most exciting pay head week of the season, that anticipation and the eventual climax pales in comparison to the week that has followed. While that game between LSU and Alabama ended up being an offensive dud that didn’t feature a single touchdown, the following week has consisted of an even stronger anticipation for offensive relief with a couple of PAC-12 powerhouses set to clash when the No. 7 Oregon Ducks take on the No. 4 Stanford Cardinal, as well as another small conference school’s continuing bid to finally land a spot in the BCS National title game, and the scandal of the year rocking a prominent SEC school.

While last weekend’s SEC showdown was about which team could even manage to get to nine points, this week’s PAC-12 matchup could be a race to 50 in order to land a victory. The Ducks and Cardinal offer a contrast in offensive style with speed versus power, but both methods have been effective so far as they rank as two of the best in the country. While Oregon will continue to hand the ball off to running back LaMichael James and pound Stanford with the run, they won’t be able to keep up with Andrew Luck and the Cardinal offense if they don’t break through. The Ducks have always had a really strong offensive team, but they have developed somewhat of a penchant for coming up short in big cost per head games.

While the year has changed, the goal remains the same for a Boise State team that have consistently dominated the Mountain West conference, but have never gotten their shot at a BCS National Championship game because of their relatively weak strength of schedule. That won’t change this season even though the Broncos dominated then-No. 19 Georgia in their season opener, as they don’t have another ranked opponent left on their schedule. Their only hope is some major stumbles at the top, and to consistently dominate their remaining per head opponents on the scoreboard.

While the bookie software preview should be about the game played on the field, there is no denying the impact that the scandal in Penn State will have on the game. Fans rioted both on the campus and through the streets of the downtown area after the news of head coach Joe Paterno’s dismissal was released, and while the team should rally around him and come up with an emotional effort, this game could be marred by the controversy surrounding the program.
