Another weekend of college football action brings with it the renewal of the battle for the top ranking in not only the sports’ biggest conference, but in the country. The No. 1 LSU Tigers and No. 3 Alabama Crimson Tide are both in action this week against conference opponents, while a pair of PAC-12 rivals get ready to hook up on the west coast. Here is a quick look at those intriguing matchups for this Saturday.

There is a reason why LSU is ranked No. 1 in the nation, and it has a lot to do with perseverance. The Tigers have responded to tough challenges from defending BCS national title game finalists Oregon and a pair of nationally ranked teams, and now get what could be considered a relatively easier game at home against Kentucky before they host No. 12 Florida a week from Saturday. Head coach Les Miles has created the perfect balance of power between the offense and defense this year, and with quarterback Jarrett Lee finally hitting his stride, LSU should have no problem staying on top for at least another week with a big win over another unranked opponent from within the SEC.

While this PAC-12 showdown no longer has the luster of some of the past showdowns between these programs, the Trojans will look to make a statement once again as they welcome the Wildcats to the Los Angeles Coliseum. USC was simply overwhelmed by Arizona State in a 43-22 road loss last weekend after holding opponents below 18 points in each of their first three wins, and will look to bounce back in a big way this Saturday to force Arizona to a fourth straight bookie software loss.

This should be the week that the Crimson Tide finally take over the No. 1 spot in the AP Top-25 rankings, but it is unlikely with LSU destined to make a mockery of Kentucky earlier in the day. Still, price per head services fans will enjoy watching head coach Nick Saban’s squad continue to roll against a talented team from Florida, as Alabama may very well be the most complete team in the country at this point. The running back tandem of Trent Richardson and Eddie Lacy has combined to average over 7.5 yards per carry, with quarterback AJ McCarron doing exactly what is asked of him within the framework of the offense. Pair that with the most dominant defense in the nation, and there is every reason to believe that this Saturday’s trip is just another stop on the Crimson Tide’s road to the BCS National title game.
