Just got a notice that I owe my apartment complex 2 months rent; I had been writing checks from an old checking account which was not sufficiently funded, and both August and September's checks have bounced.

Saturday, Sept 20, was the first I had heard about either check bouncing. Now included on my balance is 50 days of late fees, because they are counting from the first missed payment of August!

If they had told me in a reasonable time period that August's month had bounced, this would have been taken care of long ago. But the apartment complex must have waited over 40 days since knowing my check bounced before notifying me.

Any advice on dodging these late fees?

by the time the apts find out ur ck bounced your bank has long since notified you...and taken the overdraft charges etc out of ur acct.... If u dont keep up with ur own buisness thats ur problem but the writer of a ck usually knows days if not weeks before the reciever that the ck bounced....

wanna dodge the late fees? be standing at the door when they open this morning with 2 months cash rent plus maybe 35 bucks each to pay their banks bad ck fee that they were charged. They dont have to but may let u slide on the rest.

LOL!
Maybe he attented some of the classes that John McCain took. You know where they teach you not to remember how many homes you own and to forget how much is in your checkbook, when paying rent.:lolBIG:

Most management companies are assholes. Wouldn't be surprised is they haven't started the eviction process already.

Plus he let me keep betting.

Any advice on making sure he doesn't break my kneecaps if I don't pay him by Friday?

Just write them a check for the back rent minus the late fees - I guarantee they never mention it again
