Former Secretary of State Colin Powell blames Rush Limbaugh and conservative talk radio for Republican electoral woes in a CNN interview to be broadcast this weekend.

"Can we continue to listen to Rush Limbaugh?" Powell said, according to a transcript of the interview on the “Fareed Zakaria GPS” show CNN released.

"Is this really the kind of party that we want to be when these kinds of spokespersons seem to appeal to our lesser instincts rather than our better instincts?" Powell said.

Powell told Zakaria that he still considers himself a Republican but said his party should quit listening to Limbaugh for advice. Instead, it needs to look more to minority groups if it wants to win elections in the 21st century.

The week before the presidential election, Powell crossed party lines to endorse Barack Obama during an appearance on NBC’s "Meet the Press."

During the appearance, Powell, the first African-American to hold the secretary of state position, made it clear that race had not played a role in his decision to back Obama. His support, he said, arose from Obama's "ability to inspire, because of the inclusive nature of his campaign, because he is reaching out all across America."

Ironically, conservatives like Limbaugh had strongly opposed John McCain during his presidential campaign, while Powell donated $2,300 to McCain during his primary effort.

"I think the party has to stop shouting at the world and at the country," Powell said. "I think that the party has to take a hard look at itself, and I've talked to a number of leaders in recent weeks and they understand that."

"There is nothing wrong with being conservative. There is nothing wrong with having socially conservative views — I don't object to that,” Powell said in the interview, which was taped Wednesday. “But if the party wants to have a future in this country, it has to face some realities. In another 20 years, the majority in this country will be the minority."

Colin must be in a cave.

Evidently, he didn't here about the credit crisis. Or maybe he's not aware that the 96 to 4 African American vote translates into a 14,600,000 plurality for Obama, essentially wiping out a 7,000,000 vote plurality for McCain in all the other demographics combined.

Translation: he's wrong, he's talking out his ass, he's making stuff up that he can't substantiate to save his life, he's saying stuff that's not supported by any data anywhere

any questions?

3-Peet isn't real good at English. Or anything else that requires much more then a bumper sticker mentality.

Funny how this Benedict Arnold hopped the fence so easily and went against everything he spent his life building, all for self preservation. Just goes to show you how fucked we are once our politicians get a taste for the good life and how easy it is to keep or lose it.

I have already explained this to you thick head. I do cap games and i do bet and i still advise about 22 guys, im just low key now is all. As far as Sharp moves goes...i worked almost everyday for 7 months sending games and what not and never received a dime. But hey, at least i was charitable.

And for the record, i voted for Ron Paul in 2008, hardly a Lib genius.

Just one question: How does someone have enough faith in a candidate to donate $2300 to his campaign and then NOT EVEN END UP VOTING FOR HIM!?!?

Sounds like someone who's trying to buy influence, only to change horses in the middle of the race when he realizes he's bet on the loser. Either that, or he has entirely too much money.

That donation was made early on in the campaign, and, as time went on, the more he saw of McNutt, the less he liked him. What's so hard to figure out about that?

Right, the Republicans are flushing themselves down the drain because they're not more like "Democrats". I don't understand how anyone can take such nonsense seriously. Here's a clue, look at history and observe how the parties change power frequently. :ohno:

But lets analyze the stupidity Powell speaks. Rush and the most conservative Republicans didn't even like McCain, he was supposed to appeal to Democrats and be a middle of the road type of guy. Powell, WAKE UP ALREADY. The media had a love affair with the maverick until he won the nomination.

the Republican party wasn't energized until McCain selected Palin. Elections are won with money, eh Powell, and she brought home the bacon, dipshit. Palin drew the crowds, Palin had the most viewed VP nomination speech, the most viewed VP debate and set viewership records everywhere she turned up.

The Democratic propaganda machine was scared shitless and went into full scale attack and destroy mode to protect their boy. They are the scum of the earth.

Obama won because of the credit crisis, Obama won because the GOP was in the WH for eight years, Obama won because he had more money, Obama won because he had an unprecedented level of media bias working for him, Obama won because the 11% African American vote gave him a 14,500,000 vote plurality among AAs.

Obama did not win because McCain was too conservative. Powell is officially a political retard, nothing more.

In case you havent been paying attention im not a Republican. Technically, these guys arent really Republicans, but thats another story for another day. A true Republican is a fiscal conservative and a social liberal....those guys are extinct. Ron Paul fits this bill, hence i voted for him. Having to explain this again further proves my point about you not being that bright. In the meantime, keep voting for Obama.... everything will CHANGE. :missingte

Maybe so. But my point is, most people would be pretty sure about someone before they donated $2300 to his campaign.

ohhhh so now its "they're not true republicans". You people never cease to crack me up. Keep moving those chains though. Are you gonna tell me next a 1st down equals 11 yards? And lets not talk about bright since I already voted for Obama. There supposed to be some run off yourself and MJ are petitioning??
