STANDINGS: Rockies - 5th place, 10 GB, NL West. Yankees - 1st place, AL East.

ROCKIES PROBABLE STARTER: Jason Jennings (5-5, 6.68 ERA). Jennings has won three straight starts, including Saturday's 11-2 victory over San Francisco. The right-hander allowed one run and four hits over 5 2-3 innings but struggled with his control, walking seven without a strikeout. Jennings has made one career appearance against the Yankees, yielding six runs and nine hits in only three innings back in 2002. He is 3-2 with a 6.23 ERA in six road starts this year.

YANKEES PROBABLE STARTER: Contreras (2-2, 7.11 ERA). Contreras, who has never faced the Rockies, is 1-2 with a 7.04 ERA in four starts at Yankee Stadium this year.

OFFENSIVE LEADERS: Rockies - Todd Helton, .323 avg.; Jeromy Burnitz, 16 HRs; Vinny Castilla, 48 RBIs; Royce Clayton, 43 runs; Clayton and Aaron Miles, 4 SBs. Yankees - Alex Rodriguez, .301 avg., 13 HRs and 9 SBs, Sheffield, 37 RBIs; Hideki Matsui, 44 runs.

INTERLEAGUE RECORDS: Rockies, 0-2; Yankees, 2-0.

STREAKS AND NOTES: Rockies - OF Burnitz is riding a 13-game hitting streak, one shy of his career high. ... Colorado has lost 36 of 49 interleague road games since play between the NL and AL began in 1997. ... The Rockies have the worst road record in the NL. Yankees - 3B Rodriguez singled his first time up Wednesday, extending his streak of reaching base safely to 46 games. ... The Yankees' interleague win streak is the longest since interleague play began in '97. ... RHP Kevin Brown was forced to leave Wednesday's game after only two innings because of stiffness in his lower back - possibly a bad sign for the Yankees. Brown has had a history of back problems, with six visits to the disabled list in the previous five years.

ROAD/HOME RECORDS: Rockies - 8-21 on the road; Yankees - 20-8 at home.
