Was going to discuss in Wally's thread until it turned ugly and got locked. Wally did you have reasoning behind your play on Col? Would be interested in hearing.

I like Colorado as well.
33-27 at home (31-27 as favorite)
Dbacks are 27-32 away (16-23 as underdog)

I think the books set this price because they knew everyone and their mother would jump on the Dbacks with that price. Especially after getting Dunn.

The DBacks offense has sucked lately (that will help Jiminez)
Reynolds and Dunn are in top 5 in strikouts (that will help Jiminez)
Hudson is out now ... and that hurts.

I like the Rocks.

for some reason i'm not buying that everyone will be on Arizona. Colorado is an attractive team, espcially with their ace on the mound at Coors field. Even if they were i'm still not afraid. the public does very well betting wise, they just lose money by laying the big juices on the favorites.
I can see why the line was set so high. Jiminez pitching at home, against a left handed pitcher. Colorado rakes against lefties opposed to getting pretty much dominated by righties. However Johnson isn't your typical lefty. He primarily throws that slider that bores in on right handed hitters. Career wise no Colorado batter has really seen him enough to determine a trend, but unfamiliarity against a pitcher usually favors the pitcher.
This Colorado team simply is not that good. They seemed to have packed it in against the lowly Padres. Johnson has been pitching extremely effective and like I said even though the Rocks hit lefties good Johnson is a type of lefty that can neutralize their inconsistent offense. I can see Arizona giving the big Unit enough support to get the win. They hit with men in scoring position, and are disciplined enough at the plate to make Jiminez throw strikes. Ubaldo's wildness should put people on base and Arizona's clutch hitting should be the difference in the game.

Just wanted to give my 2 cents for the Rockies.

Johnson pitched 7.1 innings of two run ball while striking out seven in Wednesday's loss to the Pirates.

The Big Unit got a tough luck loss as his dueling partner, John Karstens, orchestrated a shutout. Regardless of the loss, Johnson has been pitching great as of late. He has only given up seven earned runs in his last 39.2 innings pitched with a 32:2 K:BB ratio.

Jimenez will start on Tuesday at home against Arizona, the Rocky Mountain News reports.
He will be on four days' rest after starting the second game of Thursday's doubleheader. Other than that start, Jimenez has been virtually unhittable since July 1

I agree HomeDawg Arizona or no play for me. Leaning no play with the numbers Ubaldo has against the D'Backs (18 IP 5 ER in 3 starts) under may be the best play but not sure I would play that in Coors.

Last night when I placed my bets, I was going to take Arizona, but decided not to because I hate betting against home teams with their ace pitching.

This is something i came across
Zona is the sucker play of the day. Why do you think they set the opening line by making the reeling Rockies -140 favorites???? Becuase they wanted all of the money on Arizona, which they have as (70 percent) of 2:30 pm.

Jiminez will not be pushed around twice in a row by horrible offensive teams and Vegas knows that a 44 year old pitcher who's thrown 4 consecutive gems is due for a meltdown. Looks like it might happen tonight.

Don't buy into the Adam Dunn hype....he means nothing to this game tonight.

not really buying the vegas is trying to trick the players angle. most places the Rocks opened up at -125 anyways, and with their ace pitching at home seems like a reasonable line. i think vegas could care less trying to "trick" the players into taking an underdog where they would only be getting even money back. i think all that stuff is over thinking by a writer trying to meet his article per day quota. i'm more into randy johnson with an era less than 1 run a game over his last 3 dominating an inconsistent offensve who seems to have packed it in for the season. but then again that's just me. BOL tonight

Now that the bets are in the public is firmly on the side of Arizona. We all know how public road underdogs have done over the years. Most people would see this line and think why is a bad Colorado team favored over first place Arizona? Arizona might be in first but they aren't really that good as illustrated by their record.

By the way, since when did Jiminez become Colorado's ace? Their ace is and has been Aaron Cooke. Jiminez has pitched better lately (save his last outing against Washington) but he's not their ace.

Bottom line, I think somebody knows something (the oddsmaker) to open Colorado as a fairly large favorite. Just as I suspected, people have pounded Arizona in this game. By no means does any of this mean Colorado is a sure thing to win the game but history says that public dogs are deadly.
