This is a set sold to collectors, US does the same.

US silver is better ( 90%). Your half and dollar are 80%. Apparently in 1967 Canada made dimes and quarters of both 50% and 80% fineness.

I don't know which this set contains, even if it is 50%, I get a melt value of about $18, which is about what you paid with shipping.

I'd call it a good deal. It's junk silver with a bit of an upside as a numismatic item.

just remember most Canadian is 80%, not 90% like pre 1965 US

i just bought this off eBay and i would like to know a little about it...it has 1.11 oz of pure silver can anyone tell me about the coins themselves etc...would be appreciated

Canada 1967 6 Piece Uncirculated Set with Silver Coins

thanks

I didn't answer it especially well, I only treated it as junk silver.

I don't know Canadian coins too well....but I consider myself expert with US coins.

The purpose of a mint set is to provide collectors with an uncirculaled example of each denomination of coinage for a particular year, and mint.

I like stuff like this at melt value, if you want to hold some silver, it has some potential beyond pure junk, like circulated US silver from the 1950's.

Another similar item you can sometimes get for melt value is :

US SILVER ( 40 %) Ike dollars from the early 70's in the blue envelope, with the "S" mintmark. Those are nice for melt value, or close to it.

NOTE: You'd have to buy these in quantity ( like 10+), to offset shipping costs, preferably like 50+. onesies and twosies won't work.

to check melt value

it's junk silver with a possible upside.

IMO, silver is too cheap compared to Gold.

I gotta say man....I've never had any interest in coins, precious metals, etc. (and still don't). My expertise in metals starts and ends with aluminum can recycling! :drink:

But for some reason I find these threads to be some of the most fascinating OT posts on The Rx. :think2:

I guess I just enjoy 'expert' opinion on most any topic. Fun to read this stuff when someone really knows WTF they are talking about.

Hi Doug,

I am collecting silver and gold coins of Costa Rica in case you come across any or have leads for me. I especially like the proof and commemorative coins of Costa Rica.

If anything, please PM me. Thanks!
