Coaches who have received contract extensions: Justin Wilcox (Cal), Lovie Smith (Ill), Matt
Cambell (Iowa St), PJ Fleck (Minn), Barry Odom (Mo), Dino Babers (Syr), Bill Clark (UAB) and
Josh Heupel (UCF). Why Illinois gave Smith an extension is a mystery to me.

Les Miles (Kansas) and Mack Brown (North Carolina) have been busy putting their staffs to-
gather. Miles has hired OC Chip Lindsey (Aub), DC DJ Eliot (Col), DB Chevis (Ball St), OL
Luke Meadows (E. Mich), WR Emmett Jones (Tx Tech), DL Kwahn Drake (Col) and Mike
Ekeler (NC)…….Brown has added OC Phil Longo (Ole Ms), DC Tommy Thigpen (NC), DB Dre
Bly, TE Tim Brewster (Tx AM), WR Lonnie Gallaway (Lou) and OL Brandon Jones (Tx Tech).
Two veteran coaches who are glad to be back in coaching.

Florida Atlantic has hired Glenn Spencer as its new defensive coordinator. Spencer spent 10
years at Oklahoma State, five as DC. Last season he was DC at Charlotte. FAU's defense was
terrible during 2018.

New Texas Tech coach Matt Wells has brought eight of his assistants from Utah State to assist
him in with the Red Raiders.

James Madison has hired Elon head coach Curt Cignetti who agreed to a six year contract worth
$425,000 per year. JM's former coach was hired by East Carolina at $1.3 million per season.

Hard to believe. Coach Drey Trosclair was fired at Ascension Catholic High School (La) after leading
the school to back-to-back state championship appearances and a 23-5 record the past two seasons.
Some bizarre demands by the administration including not beating another team by more than 14
points, plus other silly requirements lead to the firing.

With the retirements of Urban Meyer (OSU), Bill Snyder (KS) and Paul Johnson (GT), a total
of 590 wins, 52 bowl/playoff appearances and at least a share of 26 conference or division
championships have left the building. Mr. Bill Snyder has always been a favorite of many CFB
fans.

It seems offensive coaches are in demand more than defensive coaches with Athletic Directors.
Of the eight first time head coaches, six were offensive coordinators, compared to two defensive
coordinators. When including the backgrounds of new HC with previous experience as head coach,
the offensive advantage grows to 15-6. The gap grows even further if you go back to the end of
the 2017 season where a total of 34 new head coaches were hired. Thirty-four of them had offensive
backgrounds. Among first-time head coaches, the offense holds a 12-4 advantage. I'm sure glad
Alabama preferred a coach with a defensive background...bet Georgia is too.

It's being reported Georgia's five-star quarterback Justin Fields is intending to transfer from the
Georgia program. Starter Jake Fromm has two more years with the dawgs and he has been to
good to replace. If Fields transfers, he will be in great demand. The kid is big, athletic and can
throw the ball. Let's see, the Bama quarterback plays one more season and then goes pro. Fields
will have to sit out a year before he can play. Just dreaming out loud!

Once again the Southeastern Conference is dominating the recruiting wars.
Per Rivals.com, here are the early signing period ratings.

1. Alabama.....2. Georgia.....3. Texas A&M.....4. LSU.....12. Arkansas.....
13. Tennessee.....15. Auburn.....17. Florida.....22. South Carolina.....23.
Mississippi State.....24. Ole Miss.....28. Kentucky.....31. Missouri.....46.
Vanderbilt.

Anyone notice a pattern with the top 3 schools. I would bet Georgia, Texas
A&M and even Tennessee are well schooled in the Saban method of recruiting.

How about them Hogs at number twelve?
