Preview: Tigers (26-19) at Athletics (16-30)
Game: 2
Venue: O.co Coliseum
Date: May 26, 2015 10:05 PM EDT

The Detroit Tigers have been nearly unbeatable with David Price on the mound while the Oakland Athletics have baseball's worst record against left-handed starters.

Price will try to help the Tigers avoid a fourth straight loss Tuesday night, with Miguel Cabrera expected back in the lineup as he tries to extend his 12-game hitting streak.

Detroit (26-20) is 8-1 in Price's starts while Oakland (17-30) is 1-9 when facing a southpaw starter. The Athletics went into Monday's action with a .283 slugging percentage against left-handers for baseball's worst mark.

Price (3-1, 3.32 ERA) is in search of his first decision in four outings. He gave up three runs over 6 2-3 innings in Thursday's 6-5, 11-inning win over Houston.

The Tigers starter is 2-2 with a 3.69 ERA in seven career outings against Oakland. Brett Lawrie has faced him the most among Oakland hitters, going 3 for 18.

Lawrie is expected to return after sitting out three straight games with tightness in his back.

Cabrera will be back for the Tigers after his first day off in Monday's 4-0 loss in the opener of this three-game set. The superstar is hitting .413 during his streak, and leads the league with a .446 on-base percentage.

The two-time AL MVP is a .354 hitter with 25 RBIs in 21 regular-season games versus Oakland over the previous three years.

Without him, Detroit had four singles.

'We didn't mount much of an attack at all,' manager Brad Ausmus said.

Shortstop Jose Iglesias has missed the last two games with a bruised left knee. Iglesias is tied with Anthony Gose for second on the club behind Cabrera with a .333 average.

The Tigers face journeyman Oakland starter Jesse Chavez (1-4, 2.89), whose 9.90 ERA against them is his third-highest against any opponent. Cabrera is 3 for 7 with a homer against the right-hander.

Chavez has pitched well since joining the rotation April 23, though he fell to 1-4 with a 3.41 ERA in six outings in that span by yielding three runs in six-plus innings in Thursday's 3-0 defeat at Tampa Bay. The Athletics have totaled six runs of support in his starts.

He may be wary of a defense that committed three more errors Monday to bring baseball's highest total to 49 - matching the third-highest total by a team through 47 games since 2000. Shortstop Marcus Semien has 17 for the most in the majors - no one else has more than 12.

Oakland is enjoying a season-high three-game win streak and manager Bob Melvin will give Ben Zobrist his first start since April 24 after the outfielder was out with a torn ligament in his left knee.

"It's always nice to have a guy back that you feel like is very impactful for your team, and obviously we made that trade for a reason so it's good to have him back," Melvin told MLB's official website.

Left-hander Sean Doolittle is expected to be activated to make his season debut. The closer, an All-Star last year, was out with a shoulder injury and will be used first in non-save situations.

"Whether it's earlier in the game, maybe he can face some lefties, which has been a little bit of an issue for us and then we can work him into that closer's spot," Melvin said.

Preview: White Sox (19-22) at Blue Jays (20-26)
Game: 2
Venue: Rogers Centre
Date: May 26, 2015 7:07 PM EDT

The Toronto Blue Jays had little trouble finding offense in their series-opening win against the Chicago White Sox, and may need a similar effort Tuesday night with the inconsistent R.A. Dickey on the mound.

A similar sentiment holds true for the White Sox and John Danks.

Fresh off their first back-to-back victories in nearly three weeks, the Blue Jays try to match their longest win streak of the season against a White Sox team that has dropped six of seven.

Toronto (21-26) scored four runs in the first inning Monday en route to a 6-0 victory for its first win streak since May 6-9.

Chris Colabello had two RBIs and Josh Donaldson hit his 10th home run to support Drew Hutchison's four-hitter.

Dickey (2-4, 5.49 ERA) enjoyed similar offensive support in a complete-game 8-4 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday, but has otherwise not been as fortunate. Prior to his latest win, he managed one quality start in his last six tries - allowing one run in eight innings against the New York Yankees on May 4 - and owns a 6.93 ERA in that span with a 3.58 run support average.

Still, with only two runs surrendered through eight innings Thursday, Dickey was plenty encouraged by the improvement in his primary pitch.

"Tonight you saw big swings and movement, you saw change in speeds, I saw less and less rotation throughout the night on the knuckleball, which is key," Dickey told MLB's official website. "The ones that got hit tonight were balls that were similar to ones I had been throwing in the last month, where they kind of rolled up there because I had a mechanical breakdown.

"I'm going to continue to build in the proper mechanic and return to some of the basics that I came into this knuckleball journey with and we'll see what happens."

The White Sox (19-23) have hit Dickey hard in each of their two meetings since he joined Toronto, scoring 12 runs with six homers over 11 innings. Jose Abreu hit two home runs and Alexei Ramirez also went deep in Chicago's 5-4 win on June 27.

Danks (2-4, 5.11) picked up the win in that contest, and will again oppose Dickey looking to solve his own inconsistencies.

After allowing three runs and striking out 10 over 14 innings in his previous two starts, the left-hander yielded five runs, six hits and four walks in 5 1-3 innings of a 5-2 loss to Cleveland on Thursday.

"The last two times out he came out strong," manager Robin Ventura said. "(Thursday) that wasn't the case. He didn't pitch well."

Danks may have the misfortune of facing Jose Bautista following consecutive off days for the slugger. Bautista received a cortisone shot on Sunday to relieve his ailing shoulder, and will serve as Toronto's designated hitter on Tuesday if he is pain-free.

Donaldson is 8 for 17 with five RBIs in his last four games versus Chicago. He is 4 for 9 with a home run against Danks.

Chicago has totaled 13 runs and batted .187 during its 1-6 stretch and could be without right fielder Avisail Garcia on Tuesday. Garcia, who leads the team with an .821 OPS, left in the second inning Monday with soreness in his right knee, and his status is uncertain.

Preview: Mariners (20-23) at Rays (24-21)
Game: 2
Venue: Tropicana Field
Date: May 26, 2015 7:10 PM EDT

Offensive struggles - particularly with runners in scoring position - have the Tampa Bay Rays on the cusp of matching their longest slide of the season

The Rays attempt to shake out of their recent funk in order to avoid a fifth straight loss to the visiting Mariners for the first time in 14 years Tuesday night.

Tampa Bay (24-22) is atop the AL East, but it's been outscored 16-3 during a three-game slide, its longest since losing four straight from April 17-21.

The Rays are 2 for 25 with runners in scoring position over the last three games and 6 for 49 (.122) over their last six. They went 0 for 10 in that situation in Monday's 4-1 series-opening loss to Seattle (21-23).

"The last three games have been similar. We can't piece anything together offensively," manager Kevin Cash said. "We left 10 men on base. Generally, when you do that and you're only getting one across, it doesn't amount to many good things."

Tampa Bay is hitting .173 and is 1 for 28 with runners in scoring position while losing four straight meetings with the Mariners, its longest home slide in the all-time series.

The Rays haven't endured a longer overall losing streak to Seattle since an eight-game skid from 2000-01.

Logan Forsythe has been a rare offensive bright spot, collecting four hits in the past three games. He homered Monday after moving to first base when James Loney went on the disabled list with a broken finger that could keep him out for up to six weeks.

Forsythe is hitting .323 in 25 games, a stretch that includes starting 16 at second and three each at first, third and DH.

The Rays are turning to Alex Colome (3-1, 4.81) for the first time against the Mariners, and he's trying to build on one of his best performances of the season. The right-hander allowed four hits in five innings of a 3-0 win over Oakland after getting hammered for nine runs and 17 hits - four homers - in 9 1-3 innings over his last two.

"Everything he threw was good," catcher Bobby Wilson told MLB's official website. "He commanded all four of his pitches, which he has to do to be successful."

Colome will have to contend with a hot-hitting Kyle Seager, who has a .375 average (15 for 40) during an 11-game hitting streak while Robinson Cano is 11 for 28 with six RBIs with at least one hit in seven straight games at Tropicana Field.

Cano had a pair of RBI singles in the opener after going hitless in 12 at_bats. He's hitting .253 with one homer and 13 RBIs on the season, but manager Lloyd McClendon isn't concerned.

"There's nothing like positive results," McClendon said. "The guy's track record is so good, you know he's going to hit."

J.A. Happ (3-1, 3.61) gets the ball after a long rain delay limited him to two innings in Thursday's 5-4 loss at Baltimore. The left-hander didn't get a decision despite surrendering a grand slam to Steve Pearce in the first inning after allowing two runs in 12 innings over his previous two starts.

Happ is 2-1 with a 1.83 ERA in his last three starts against Tampa Bay. He was the hard-luck loser in a 1-0 defeat Sept. 12, yielding one run and two hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings.

He's held Forsythe to one hit in eight at_bats.

Preview: Marlins (18-27) at Pirates (21-22)
Game: 2
Venue: PNC Park
Date: May 26, 2015 7:05 PM EDT

Four straight dominant outings from their starting pitchers has led to four straight victories for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Jeff Locke will be tasked with extending that streak on Tuesday night when the Pirates host the Miami Marlins.

Pittsburgh (22-22) completed a three-game sweep of the New York Mets over the weekend, with its starting pitchers posting a 0.84 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 21 1-3 innings. It received another stellar outing Monday from Charlie Morton, who pitched seven strong innings in a 4-2 victory over Miami in his season debut.

For a team seeking its third consecutive postseason berth, Monday's win moved Pittsburgh back to .500.

"This isn't the '13 team. This isn't the '14 team. This is the '15 team, that to me hadn't established any identity through the first 40 games," manager Clint Hurdle told MLB's official website. "I like the way this team has responded. I like this team a lot. I like their makeup. I like their guts. But we've got to play better baseball."

Locke (2-2, 5.28 ERA) opened the season with two wins and a 1.93 ERA in two starts, but has a 6.75 ERA in six outings since. He allowed three runs and seven hits in six innings Wednesday and did not factor into the decision in a 4-3 loss to Minnesota.

Locke was impressive in two starts against the Marlins last year. The left-hander went at least seven innings in each, had a 3.00 ERA and led Pittsburgh to two victories.

He'll face a Marlins lineup that had all eight positional starters tally a hit in the series opener. However, the bulk of the offensive production again fell to Giancarlo Stanton, who drove in both runs and hit his 13th home run.

Stanton, who entered Monday in a 3-for-30 slump, leads the majors with 42 RBIs, while the Marlins (18-28) rank toward the bottom of baseball with 175 runs.

"It's great to see him relaxed and do the things he's capable of doing," manager Dan Jennings told MLB's official website. "He can also put a team on his back and carry us for a while."

Stanton is 6 for 12 with two homers and a double against Locke.

He'll try to continue that production in support Jose Urena (0-0, 9.00), who makes his first major league start. Urena, 23, allowed three runs in three innings of relief in April before he was sent to the minors. The right-hander went 4-0 with a 1.21 ERA in six starts for Triple-A New Orleans, allowing one run over seven innings at Nashville on May 18.

"He's definitely capable of pitching up here," Jennings said. "It's his opportunity right now to step up and give us a much-needed boost."

He'll have to contend Tuesday with a Pittsburgh team that is batting .305 with 25 runs and 15 extra-base hits during its four-game streak.

Pedro Alvarez is 5 for 10 with two homers, two doubles and four RBIs in his last three games, while Francisco Cervelli also homered Monday and has four RBIs in his last three.

Andrew McCutchen has also been heating up. Despite going hitless Monday, the former MVP is batting .474 with three home runs in his last five games. He is hitting .404 in 15 games with the Marlins since the start of 2012.

Preview: Braves (22-21) at Dodgers (26-17)
Game: 2
Venue: Dodger Stadium
Date: May 26, 2015 10:10 PM EDT

Clayton Kershaw only lost three times last year, and he's already matched that in 2015.

With Los Angeles' offense showing signs of improvement, Kershaw attempts to begin turning things around Tuesday night when the Dodgers face the Atlanta Braves.

Los Angeles (27-17) went 23-4 when giving the ball to Kershaw last season, and his importance was acknowledged with NL MVP honors and a third Cy Young Award.

Things aren't going so well in 2015, as Kershaw (2-3, 4.32 ERA) has struggled in nearly every facet. The Dodgers have lost five of his nine starts, he's yielded at least two runs in each and has allowed opponents to hit .251 with six homers and 16 walks.

Last year, the left-hander held batters to a .196 average with nine homers and a career-low 31 walks.

Kershaw allowed four runs in 7 1-3 innings of Thursday's 4-0 loss at San Francisco. He served up a solo homer to Giants starter Madison Bumgarner, the first he's given up to an opposing pitcher in his eight-year career.

"You never want to say you're worried," Kershaw told MLB's official website. "We haven't gotten everybody going at the same time, me included."

The Dodgers, though, may have started to get their bats going, collecting 11 hits with three homers in a 6-3 win over Atlanta (22-22) in Monday's opener. They were hitting .190 with three homers and nine runs while dropping five of the previous eight.

Andre Ethier has five hits in four games after going 2 for 3 with a homer and two RBIs on Monday. He's batting .410 (16 for 39) in the past 12 home games, and has grabbed the starting spot in right field against right-handers with Yasiel Puig on the disabled list.

"Andre has backed it up and he deserves to be playing every day," manager Don Mattingly said.

Ethier will face Julio Teheran (4-1, 3.91) for the first time, and the right-hander is getting the ball opposite Kershaw for the first time since they both went the distance in a 2-1 home win for the Dodgers on July 31. Teheran tossed a five-hitter while Kershaw yielded nine hits in his first meeting with the Braves since 2011.

Teheran wasn't nearly that effective in his only other start against Los Angeles, surrendering five runs and nine hits in 7 1-3 innings of a 6-2 defeat Aug. 11.

He enters this one after his best effort of the season. He allowed one run and two hits with eight strikeouts in seven innings of a 10-1 win over Milwaukee on Thursday, the third time in four outings he's yielded fewer than two earned runs.

Teheran had a 7.20 ERA over his previous three games.

"When a pitcher rallies with three of four starts like that, you've got to feel good about it," manager Fredi Gonzalez said.

Monday's loss was just Atlanta's third in the past 10 games. However, the Braves have lost seven of the past eight meetings with the Dodgers, and are facing the possibility of a five-game skid at Chavez Ravine for the first time since June 6-July 29, 1990.

Freddie Freeman is hitting .378 in his past nine games there, and he's 2 for 6 with a homer versus Kershaw.

Preview: Padres (21-25) at Angels (23-22)
Game: 2
Venue: Angel Stadium of Anaheim
Date: May 26, 2015 10:05 PM EDT

The days of possessing a perennially low-scoring offense were supposed to be gone after the San Diego Padres made a number of offseason moves to improve the lineup.

San Diego's inability to find consistency at the plate has contributed to its current slump, one they'll look to break out of Tuesday night against the host Los Angeles Angels.

The Padres (21-25) haven't finished in the top 20 in the majors in runs since tying for 19th in 2007, including finishing last in 2014. The additions of Justin and Melvin Upton, Matt Kemp, Will Middlebrooks and Wil Myers were expected to provide a cure for the offensive woes, but San Diego has been outscored 44-27 while batting .216 during a 2-8 stretch.

Eleven of those runs came in Sunday's win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Padres scored all of their runs Monday in the seventh inning before falling 4-3 to the Angels (23-22).

San Diego has scored three runs or fewer seven times over its last 10. Justin Upton had two hits Monday after homering and driving in six the day before, but Kemp went hitless and is 3 for 25 with nine strikeouts over his last seven.

Middlebrooks was hitting .211 on the season before having two hits in each of the last two. Melvin Upton has yet to play due to a left toe injury, and Myers has been out since May 11 with left wrist tendinitis.

Myers, hitting .291, is eligible to come off the disabled list Tuesday and is scheduled to have another scan prior to the game.

'He's doing a lot of strengthening exercises and he's encouraged by how he feels. But right now, there's no timetable,' manager Bud Black said.

The Padres have been outscored 24-0 over Odrisamer Despaigne's last three starts. Despaigne (2-3, 6.11 ERA) moved back into the rotation after Brandon Morrow went on the disabled list May 3, then allowed 15 runs and 20 hits - four homers - over eight innings while dropping his first two starts.

The right-hander was solid Thursday, though, allowing two runs in six innings of a 3-0 loss to the Chicago Cubs. Manager Bud Black plans to keep Despaigne in the rotation for the time being.

"The last couple results didn't necessarily go my way, but I worked hard," Despaigne said.

Despaigne has never faced the Angels, who had lost three of four until Albert Pujols' broken-bat, walk-off single with the bases loaded Monday to kick off a 10-game homestand.

Matt Joyce and Carlos Perez each had two hits and an RBI for Los Angeles, which has won four straight at home.

The Angels' last home loss came with Matt Shoemaker on the mound May 9. He's lost all three of his home starts with a 9.45 ERA.

Shoemaker (3-4, 6.29) bounced back to give up one run in seven innings of a 6-1 win at Baltimore on May 16, but he gave up a career worst-tying eight runs - seven earned - in six innings of Thursday's 8-4 loss at Toronto.

'Everything is kind of going bad right now,' said Shoemaker, whose 13 homers allowed are the second most in the majors to San Diego's James Shields' 15. 'I've just got to find a way to get out of it.'

This will be the right-hander's first start against the Padres, but Kemp is 1 for 3 with a home run in their matchups.

Nationals, Cubs hook up

May 26, 2015

WASHINGTON NATIONALS (27-18) at CHICAGO CUBS (24-20)

Sportsbook.ag Line: Washington -115, Chicago +105, Total: 10.5

The Washington Nationals look to continue their recent hot play when they take on the Chicago Cubs in the second of three games this Tuesday night.

The Nationals may have had a rough start to the 2015 season, but they have turned it around in a big way with victories in 20 of their last 25 games and are 8-1 in their last nine. They haven’t lost a series since late April and have given up a mere five runs in their last four wins. In the first contest of this series they managed a close 2-1 win after getting a meager five hits; two of which went for solo homers. One of the knocks also came off the bat of OF Bryce Harper (.333) who is hitting .386 in the month of May with 11 HRs and 26 RBIs.

Chicago has had a breakout campaign as it looks towards the future with an infield of young superstars and is currently second in the NL Central despite losing three of its past four games. Two of those came against Arizona when they lost the series while putting up 16 runs in the three contests. The offense struggled in Monday’s loss to Washington when they had just five hits and only one opportunity with RISP. The single run came off of the bat of 3B Kris Bryant (.282) who has been a big run producer since jumping to the big leagues and has three long balls with 10 RBI in the past 10 performances.

The start will go to RHP Jordan Zimmerman (4-2, 3.52 ERA) of the blistering hot Nationals as he opposes RHP Kyle Hendricks (1-1, 4.14 ERA) of the host Cubs. On the road thus far in 2015, Washington is a solid 13-11 as they face this Chicago group which is 13-9 at Wrigley after Monday’s loss. The two teams have played each other 15 times since the start of the 2013 season and in that time the Nationals are 9-6 with a record of 6-3 on the road. In the last series here in 2014, the Cubs took 2-of-4 contests with 14 runs scored in the four-game set.

Trends show that Washington is 38-13 (.745) during night games that Zimmerman started in the past two seasons while Chicago is 49-35 (.583) after batting .240 or worse over a 15 game span in the same timeframe. The Nationals continue to play without key players 3B Anthony Rendon (Knee) and OF Jayson Werth (Wrist) as the Cubs are missing depth from OF Chris Denorfia (Hamstring), 2B Tommy La Stella (Ribs) and 3B Mike Olt (Wrist).

Just like his team, Zimmerman had a rough start to the year and gave up 15 runs (12 ER) in his first four starts. Since then he has gone back to his old self with a 3-0 record as he’s had a quality outing each time. The Nationals have won each of those starts as he owns a 25:6 K/BB ratio in the five performances. His 6.0 K/9 so far is his lowest mark in his career, but he has continued to show some tremendous control (1.8 BB/9) and limits the damage with two home runs allowed in his 53.2 frames (0.34 HR/9). Zimmerman hasn’t performed at all well when facing the Cubs in his career, going 1-4 (3-4 team record) with a 4.81 ERA (1.30 WHIP), but was huge (6 IP, 0 ER, 7 H, 5 K) when he saw them once last year.

The righty hasn’t seen many of the youngsters that are new to Chicago, but does have a tough past against C Miguel Montero who is 6-for-17 (.375) with three doubles and two RBI in the matchup. On the other side of things, he has dominated the likes of SS Starlin Castro (3-for-19) and OF Dexter Fowler (2-for-13, 5 K). The bullpen for Washington has gone 8-4 with a 2.99 ERA (1.20 WHIP) and is 17-for-23 (74%) in save chances. Drew Storen (0.89 ERA, 15 saves) has just one of the blown saves and comes into this contest with 13.1 consecutive scoreless innings in which he owns an 18:1 K/BB ratio.

Hendricks did all the necessary steps to becoming a better pitcher in each successive season and has parlayed that into a successful start to his career. Last year, he posted a 2.46 ERA over 13 starts and while his 4.14 ERA this season may seem much worse, he has done so while striking out more batters (7.3 K/9) and has not lost the control (1.8 BB/9). Things are looking good for the 25-year-old after his last start, though, when he pitched a complete-game shutout against the San Diego Padres and gave up a mere five hits with seven strikeouts (0 walks) in the process. The youngster has never faced the Nationals in his career and will certainly need to not only watch out for OF Bryce Harper (.333), but also SS Ian Desmond (.247) who is currently riding a 10-game hitting streak in which he is 13-for-40 (.325) with three doubles, two HRs and seven RBI.

On the other hand, he may get a free pass if facing OF Michael Taylor (.221) who is a meager 2-for-24 (.083) with 11 strikeouts in his last nine games played. The relievers for Chicago have combined to go 10-9 with a 4.06 ERA (1.32 WHIP) and have successfully saved just 11-of-19 (58%) games. Hector Rondon (3.60 ERA, 9 saves) has blown a save in two of his last three attempts with seven hits allowed in his past five innings of work.

Armadillo: Tuesday's six-pack

Athlon college football magazine's six best offensive lines this year:

6) Auburn-- Despite having no senior starters on line this year.

5) Arkansas-- Four starters back; they averaged 5.1 ypc last year.

4) Baylor-- Have four senior starters protecting a new QB.

3) Ohio State- Four starters back; allowed 15 sacks in Big 14 last year.

2) Michigan State-- Four starters back; averaged 5.2 ypc last year.

1) Georgia-- New offensive coordinator, new OL coach, same good linemen.

**********

Armadillo: Tuesday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but.......

13) Ducks 5, Blackhawks 4 OT-- Three of five series games have gone OT; Chicago scored two goals in last 1:47 to tie game, then Ducks won game with goal 0:45 into overtime. Anaheim leads series 3-2.

12) Weirdness in Milwaukee yesterday; Khris Davis homered, then appeared to miss home plate as he rounded bases. Giants appealed play, the umps called Davis out, the Brewers challenged via replay and the call was overturned, so the run counted, but Davis got lucky-- very close call.

Later in the game, Davis homered again and made very sure he stepped on the plate. I had never seen that happen before, except in a Babe Ruth game.

11) Good news if you watch college football on ESPN; Matt Millen is jumping from ESPN to the Big Ten Network. Muy bueno!!!! Millen was one of the worst executives in NFL history; he doesn't deserve an analyst job.

10) Aaron Boone-Mark Mulder-Dave O'Brien are a solid broadcast team for ESPN on Monday night games. O'Brien does radio for the Red Sox and is good at basketball, too. Boone/Mulder discuss baseball and teach you things.

9) When the Mets got swept in Pittsburgh this weekend, it was the first time in MLB history a team swept a three-game series, with starting pitcher winning all three games while each striking out 10+ hitters.

8) Seattle-Tampa Bay game Monday was first game in MLB history where both managers had played in the Little League World Series.

7) The great musician Bob Dylan turned 74 Monday. Happy birthday, sir.

6) Mets have a reserve infielder named Danny Muno; his dad was a punter at Notre Dame when Joe Montana was playing there.

5) Oakland A's won 24 games LY in their last at-bat, tied for most in majors; this year, they have zero such wins, which is alarming, to me at least......lol

4) Dan Uggla (13), Chase Utley (11) have the most home runs of any visiting player in brief history of Citi Field.

3) Interesting situation in Anaheim late last night; tie game, bottom of 9th, the Angels have runners on 1st/3rd, two out, Trout is up, Pujols is on deck. This is not second guessing, because as I sat here in my palacial estate, I said it at the time it happened: THERE IS NO WAY YOU WALK ANYONE TO PITCH TO ALBERT PUJOLS, never, ever, ever.

Plus Craig Kimbrel is pitching; he's really good. But the Padres walk Trout and Pujols wins the game with a single, then flashes a dirty look into the Padre dugout. Its why managers get paid a lot and why guys that lose get fired.

2) Cubs are 12-10 in one-run games; thats half their games so far this year.

1) Early favorite to be Super Bowl 50 matchup: Seahawks-Colts, at 15-1

Game of the Day: Hawks at Cavaliers
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Atlanta Hawks at Cleveland Cavaliers (-8, 193.5)

Cavaliers lead series 3-0

The Cleveland Cavaliers look to complete a four-game sweep of the visiting Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday and reach the NBA Finals for the first time since 2007. LeBron James is doing his part with three straight 30-point outings with Sunday’s overtime effort marking his 75th in a playoff game, tying Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for third place.

James missed his first 10 shots in Game 3 before rebounding for 37 points, 18 rebounds and 13 assists to notch his 12th career postseason double-double and the performance came as he played through leg and back woes. “I’m playing through a lot (of pain) but it doesn’t matter,” James said at his postgame press conference. “I don’t want any sympathy, there’s no rest for the weary. I have to make things happen for our team. It’s that simple.” Cleveland point guard Kyrie Irving has missed the past two games and has been termed as questionable for Game 4. Point guard Jeff Teague is trying to keep the Hawks afloat with a 30-point outing in Game 3 and a 23-point average in the series.

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, TNT

LINE HISTORY: Most books opened the Cavs as 8.5-point faves, but that's been slightly bet down to -8 as of this writing. The total has held steady at 193.5 since open.

INJURY REPORT: Atlanta - Korver (out for season), Sefolosha (out for season). Cleveland - Irving (questionable), Love (out for season), Varejao (out for season).

ABOUT THE HAWKS: Center Al Horford was in the midst of his best game in the series – 14 points in 19 minutes – before being ejected in the final minute of the first half for throwing an elbow at the head of Cleveland guard Matthew Dellavedova. “I did think he went at me but I should have handled it better,” Horford told reporters afterward. “Shouldn’t have gotten caught up in that, and it’s something I’ll definitely learn from.” Atlanta has placed Dellavedova on high-alert status as he was also involved in the Game 2 play in which All-Star shooting guard Kyle Korver was lost for the rest of the season with a sprained right ankle.

ABOUT THE CAVALIERS: Dellavedova has played an average of 41 minutes while starting the last two games and his grittiness and ability to knock down 3-point shots presents coach David Blatt with the option of holding out Irving again due to the team’s 3-0 series lead. The former Saint Mary’s standout made four 3-pointers and scored 17 points in Game 3 but the postgame conversation was all about whether or not he is a dirty player and James took offense to it. “Obviously, I’m a little bit off about it because this is my guy, this is my teammate, and this is a guy that goes out and works his tail off every single night and people are trying to give him a bad rap,” James said in the press conference. “He doesn’t deserve it and I don’t like it.”

TRENDS:

*Hawks are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. loss.
*Underdog is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings.
*Hawks are 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings in Cleveland.
*Cavaliers are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 after scoring 100 points or more in their previous game.

CONSENSUS: According to Consensus, 60 percent of wagers are being placed on the underdog Hawks.

Irving will be a game-time decision for Game 4

Cleveland Cavaliers head coach David Blatt announced Monday that star point guard Kyrie Irving will be a game-time decision for Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Atlanta Hawks.

Irving suffered a knee injury in Game 1 and was sidelined in Games 2 and 3. The 23-year-old was aiming to play in Sunday's 114-111 overtime triumph but was ruled out by team doctors shortly before tip-off.

The Cavs have been holding their own without the dynamic guard, owning a 3-0 series lead heading into Tuesday. LeBron's squad are listed as 8-point favorites with a current total of 193.5.

Rangers lost six of last eight games with Tampa Bay this season; they were outscored 31-21 in eight games- seven of last ten series games went over total. Rangers gave up 14 goals in three series losses- they allowed total of seven goals in their last five wins. There were 39 faceoffs in Game 5, after first the four games averaged 54.8, so a lot fewer stoppages, which apparently was in Lightning's favor. Orioles happy to see Marquez behind home plate

The Baltimore Orioles have had plenty of success when umpire Alfonso Marquez is the man behind home plate, going 14-3 in the last 17 games with him calling balls and strikes.

The Orioles will see Marquez Tuesday in Baltimore when the Orioles continue their series with the Houston Astros.

The Orioles are slight -113 favorites and will send Chris Tillman (2-5, 6.10 ERA) to the hill, while the Astros counter with Scott Feldman (3-4, 5.17 ERA).

Yanks struggle with Foster working home plate

The New York Yankees have a record of 0-6 in their previous six ball games with umpire Marty Foster behind home plate.

Foster has been behind the plate for the Yankees' 6-5 loss to the Boston Red Sox back on April 10.

He'll be calling pitches when the Yanks host the Kansas City Royals Tuesday evening.

Braves' woes against Dodgers continue

The Atlanta Braves head into Tuesday's meeting with the Los Angeles Dodgers with just one win in the previous 10 meetings, capped by a 6-3 defeat Monday evening.

The lone victory in those 10 meetings came on Aug. 13 of last season. It was a 3-2 win at Turner Field courtesy a solid pitching performance from Ervin Santana.

Julio Teheran is scheduled to get the start as +215 dogs against L.A. ace Clayton Kershaw.
