NFL notebook: Vikings' Floyd may have violated house arrest

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Michael Floyd may have violated the terms of his house arrest by drinking.


Floyd is scheduled for a show-cause hearing in Scottsdale (Ariz.) City Court on June 26, according to ESPN.


TMZ reported Friday that Floyd recently tested positive for alcohol at least three times and skipped another test altogether while under house arrest after he was found guilty of extreme DUI in February.


According to documents from the court obtained by ESPN's Adam Schefter, Floyd was contacted on Monday after a review of alcohol monitoring reports indicated a missed test, as well as the presence of alcohol in several tests.


"We are aware of the situation involving Michael Floyd and are looking into the matter," the Vikings said in a statement. "We are still gathering facts and will withhold any further comment at this time."


--New Orleans Saints standout left tackle Terron Armstead will be sidelined four to six months due to a torn labrum suffered in Wednesday's practice.


The 25-year-old is slated to undergo shoulder surgery on Monday.


Armstead learned his shoulder injury required surgery and tweeted his sentiments.


"Heartbroken when I found out I need surgery! No one is more frustrated than me after working so hard. I'll be back #WhoDatNation STRONGER!!" Armstead wrote.


--Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey underwent surgery to repair a core muscle injury, the team announced.


The Jaguars did not disclose how long Ramsey would be sidelined, however a typical recovery from this type of surgery is approximately six weeks. That timetable would put the 22-year-old Ramsey back for the first week of training camp.


"I want to and will be the best version of myself that I can be for the upcoming 2017 season," Ramsey said in a statement. "I will attack this rehab, refine my body and work as hard as I ever have to come the best defensive back in the league and to make everyone, including my family, teammates and city, proud of who I am."


Ramsey, who was the fifth overall pick of the 2016 draft, collected 65 tackles, two interceptions and one forced fumble while starting every game during his rookie season.


--Carolina Panthers starting defensive tackle Star Lotulelei is recovering from offseason surgery to clean up his shoulder.


Lotulelei's surgery had not been previously reported, but he is expected to be ready for the start of training camp next month, according to the Charlotte Observer.


The 27-year-old Lotulelei was on the sideline as the Panthers' three-day minicamp wrapped up Thursday. The team's 2013 first-round pick participated in position drills this week while being held out of scrimmage situations.


--The Vikings waived former Nebraska quarterback Tommy Armstrong, an undrafted rookie trying to make the team as a safety.


The Vikings signed Armstrong in May to take a look at him as a safety prospect. He participated in six practices during organized team activities and three during this week's mandatory minicamp.


Armstrong passed for 3,030 yards and 22 touchdowns for the Cornhuskers in 2015, followed by 2,180 yards and 14 TDs last season.

The 2017 NFL regular season concludes on Sunday Dec. 31 and the Wild Card round of the playoffs is scheduled to kick off on Saturday Jan. 6, 2018.

NFL notebook: Raiders G Jackson receives $56M deal
June 30, 2017


Oakland Raiders right guard Gabe Jackson agreed to a five-year, $56 million extension with the club on Friday, according to multiple reports.


The deal includes $26 million in guaranteed money, according to Spotrac.


Jackson is entering the final season on his rookie contract. The extension starts next season and runs through the 2022 campaign.


Jackson is a key figure on an offensive line that allowed an NFL-low 18 sacks last season.


--The Philadelphia Eagles released wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham after signing rookie quarterback Dane Evans to a three-year contract.


Green-Beckham, 24, joined the Eagles last August in a training-camp trade with the Tennessee Titans for offensive tackle Dennis Kelly.


The 6-foot-5, 237-pound Green-Beckham, a 2015 second-round pick, finished his one season in Philadelphia with 36 catches for 392 yards and two touchdowns.


Evans, 23, threw for 3,348 yards and 32 touchdowns with 12 interceptions as a senior at the University of Tulsa last year.


--Eagles linebacker Jordan Hicks injured his hand while on his honeymoon in Greece, according to multiple reports.


The team is still gathering information and Hicks' injury is not considered to be major, according to ESPN.


Phillyvoice.com first reported Hicks injured his hand Thursday while exiting a pool during the honeymoon trip. He reportedly sent a video of his hand to team doctors to take a look.


The 25-year-old Hicks, who was selected by the Eagles in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Texas, owns 135 tackles, two sacks, seven interceptions, one forced fumble, four fumble recoveries and 14 pass breakups in 24 career games, including starting all 16 games last season.


--Former Denver Broncos tight end Mitchell Henry died of complications from acute myeloid leukemia. He was 24.


Henry played at Western Kentucky, which announced his passing. He played in 47 games for the Hilltoppers during his college career, totaling 78 receptions for 1,094 yards and 12 touchdowns.


Henry, while at home in Kentucky late last year, experienced pain in his shoulder, according to ESPN. He went to a hospital, where doctors found a mass in his chest. He then began chemotherapy treatment.


Henry had been released from the Baltimore Ravens' practice squad in November.


--Baltimore Ravens tight end Darren Waller has been suspended for at least one year without pay for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, the league announced.


The suspension means Waller will forfeit his 2017 base salary of $642,774.


This is the second suspension for Waller in the past two years. After the first suspension, Waller told the club's website that he tested positive for marijuana. Waller had 10 receptions for 85 yards and two touchdowns in 2016. He has played in 18 games for the Ravens over the past two seasons.


--Plans to expand the NFL International Series to China in 2018 are on hold for at least one more season.


With speculation surrounding a future NFL franchise in London and discussion as recently as 2016 about playing the postseason Pro Bowl on foreign soil -- the league admitted discussions with officials in Sydney, Australia -- expanding the International Series remains a goal.


Another regular-season game will be played in Mexico City this season, after the Houston Texans and Oakland Raiders played before a record crowd in November 2016.

Chiefs sign LB Mauga to contract
July 6, 2017


KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) The Kansas City Chiefs signed veteran linebacker Josh Mauga, who missed all of last season with a hip injury, and former Seattle safety Steven Terrell on Thursday.


The Chiefs created roster space for him by waiving punter Will Monday.


Mauga started 30 games for the Chiefs in 2014 and `15, but an offseason injury forced him onto the injured reserve list last August. Ramik Wilson wound up starting in his place.


His return gives the Chiefs someone familiar with the defense to work behind Derrick Johnson, the veteran stalwart who is coming off his own Achilles tendon injury. Johnson participated in some of Kansas City's offseason program and expects to be ready for training camp.


Terrell appeared in 32 games for the Seahawks, starting five last season.

NFL notebook: Chargers rookie WR Williams expected to miss training camp
July 30, 2017


Los Angeles Chargers rookie wide receiver Mike Williams is expected to miss training camp as he recovers from a back injury, the team announced Sunday.


The Chargers placed Williams, the No. 7 overall pick in this year's draft out of Clemson, on the physically unable to perform list Saturday before training camp kicked off Sunday.


Williams, 22, was diagnosed with the herniated disk after his first practice during rookie minicamp in May that kept him out of offseason work. He was seen as a key new target for quarterback Philip Rivers.


The 6-foot-4, 218-pound Williams caught 98 passes for 1,361 yards and 11 touchdowns last season as a key member of Clemson's national championship team.


--The Minnesota Vikings signed cornerback Xavier Rhodes to a multiyear contract extension.


Terms were not disclosed but a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter that the extension is a six-year, $78.126 million deal and one of the largest ever given to a cornerback.


Rhodes earned his first trip to the Pro Bowl last season when he recorded 52 tackles, five interceptions and 11 passes defended in 14 games. Over his four-year career, Rhodes owns 207 total tackles, seven interceptions, 50 passes defended eight tackles for loss and two forced fumbles.


--New England Patriots defensive end Rob Ninkovich announced his retirement from the NFL after an 11-year career.


The 33-year-old Ninkovich, who had been absent from training camp for what coach Bill Belichick described as personal reasons, made the announcement at a news conference after the Patriots practiced.


Ninkovich entered the NFL as a fifth-round draft choice of the New Orleans Saints in 2006 out of Purdue. He spent the 2006 season with the Saints before he was claimed off waivers by the Miami Dolphins in 2007. He went back to New Orleans late in the 2008 season before the Patriots signed him as a free agent on Aug. 2, 2009.

NFL notebook: Seahawks S Chancellor lands three-year, $36M deal
August 1, 2017


Kam Chancellor agreed on Tuesday to sign a three-year, $36 million extension to remain with the Seattle Seahawks.


The 29-year-old and four-time Pro Bowl strong safety will receive $25 million in guaranteed money in the deal, per ESPN.


"I love this team," Chancellor told reporters. "They gave me the first opportunity and the only opportunity, and I would love to retire here."


The former fifth-round pick is entering his eighth NFL season, all with Seattle. He has amassed 557 tackles, 12 interceptions, 42 passes defensed, eight forced fumbles and two sacks over 100 career games.


--Four-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Ryan Clady announced his retirement on his Twitter account. Clady has been without a team since the New York Jets released him in February.


"Despite having several teams who are currently interested in signing me, I have made a very difficult decision to retire from my NFL playing career," Clady said. "I have deliberated on this decision thoroughly until now because I wanted to see if the beginning of NFL training camps would inspire the passion that I need to perform at the standards that I established for myself during my nine-year NFL career."


The 30-year-old Clady was one of the top left tackles in the NFL during his eight seasons with the Denver Broncos. He spent his final season with the Jets. He was a first-round pick in 2008 out of Boise State and started all 16 regular-season games in each of his first five seasons. Three of his Pro Bowl selections came during that span.


Clady played just two games in 2013 due to a foot injury. He returned to collect Pro Bowl honors the following season but missed the entire 2015 campaign due to an ACL injury in his left knee. Clady was traded to the New York Jets prior to the 2016 season but played just nine games. He finished the season on injured reserve due to a torn rotator cuff.


--The NFL has reached out to the NFL Players' Association in hopes of joining its study of using marijuana as a potential pain management tool for the league's ailing players, according to The Washington Post.


The NFL currently bans all marijuana use, but wrote a letter to the NFLPA stating it would like to work with the association on its research of the subject, The Post reports.


The NFLPA has yet to say whether or not it will work jointly with the league.


Last January, NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith told The Post the association was crafting a proposal to the league that would soften the harsh punishments for players who use the drug.


--Mike Nugent is returning to New York, but he will be wearing a blue jersey instead of a green and white one this time.


Nugent, a 12-year veteran kicker who spent his first four seasons with the New York Jets, signed with the New York Giants and will compete for the kicking job with Aldrick Rosas.


The Giants had an open roster spot after rookie safety Jadar Johnson announced his retirement last weekend.


The 35-year-old Nugent spent the last seven seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals and also had brief stints with the Arizona Cardinals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the 2009 season. Nugent is tied with fellow kicker Nick Folk and Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith on the NFL's all-time scoring list with 1,052 points. He has made 236 of 292 field goals and 344 of 355 extra points in 153 career games.
