Top recruits (5-star) was the topic of Post #5. The past 5 years, the average number 5-star recruits is
31.8 according to 247Sports. There ain't many of them in any given year, that's why they are considered
the top recruits.
During the past two years, Northwestern, Purdue, Washington nor UCLA have signed a 5-star recruit.
Northwestern, Purdue and Washington haven't signed one the past 5 years. UCLA signed two during
the 2017 recruiting cycle.
Looks like Clemson is about to sign another one. A top defensive end has narrow to Clemson and Auburn.
The Tigers now have player commits from Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas, California, North
Carolina, Maryland, Washington, D.C. and South Carolina. Wonder why?
I get ya.
I just looked at ESPN'S 5 star recruits for 2019. There were only 14 of them (according to ESPN).
A 5 star recruit has a 90 grade of above.
This is where they went
1) Oregon- they went 9-4 last year and 7-6 before that.
2) UGA- championship mode
3) TexAm- Same record as Oregon the past 2 years
4) Bama- championship mode
5) Tenn- 5-7 last year. 4-8 the year before. Didnt even make a bowl
6) Oklahoma- championship mode
7) Bama- championship mode
8- Auburn- 8-5 last year. 10-4 the year before (half a championship mode lets say)
9) Tenn- see team 5 above
10) Ohio State- championship mode
11) LSU- 10-3 and 9-4 the past 2 years (half a championship mode)
12) Sparty- 7-6 last year 10-3 the year before (half a championship mode)
13) Mich- 10-3 last year 8-5 the year before that (half a championship mode)
14) Georgia- championship mode
Out of those 14 players, 6 players are going to teams that made the CFP in the prior 2 years.
4 are going to a team that won 10 games in 1 of the past 2 season
2 are going to to a team that had not won 10 games in the past 2 seasons
2 are going to a team that hasnt made a bowl in the past 2 seasons.
So 8 of those 14 players are going to teams that DID not make the CFP last season
Again, this was according to ESPN.
I'm wondering how many 5 star players (in the 2019 recruiting class) chose a team that went to the CFP in the past 2 seasons?
More than 2/3? Without looking, i say no (but could be wrong)
I really dont think winning championships is top priority for a bunch of 5 star recruits. Going to the NFL is most likely the number 1 priority for them
