CORVALLIS, Ore. -- An Oregon State football player charged with assault was suspended by coach Mike Riley on Monday for violating team policy, as were three of his teammates.

Joseph Rudulph, 19, a freshman from Sacramento, Calif., was arrested Friday after a confrontation with an Oregon National Guard solider at the Headline Cafe in Corvallis.

Teammates Anthony Wheat-Brown, Whitfield Usher and Ryan Rainwater were at the restaurant, but have not been arrested, police said. The university, in a statement, said the suspensions for all four were for an indefinite period of time.

The alleged incident happened as Staff Sgt. Gabriel Sapp was dancing with his wife. The couple was allegedly approached by a group of black men, identified as Oregon State football players.

The men began making comments to Sapp's wife, who is also black, about her relationship with her husband, who is white, Corvallis police said.

Witnesses said Rudulph then punched Sapp in the face, knocking him to the ground. Sapp, who was celebrating his last night of leave, is back in Iraq.

Rudulph faces assault, harassment and disorderly conduct charges. Wheat-Brown, a redshirt-freshman receiver from Compton, Calif., has started eight games and is third on the team in receptions with 33. He caught 11 passes in Saturday's 24-19 win over Stanford. Rudulph, a reserve defensive end, has appeared in nine games this season. Usher and Rainwater have not played this season.

I don't know how it is impacting the players, but the city of Corvallis is frazzled about this incident.

Conan...what are you hearing up there. And how 'bout them Ducks?

More important is the status of the Ducks TE Day and WR Williams. The Ducks could not do anything on offense w/o these two - 2nd half of Cal game and the UCLA game they looked terrible. Dropped balls, bad routes, etc. from the rest of the receiving crew. The last I saw from the Eugene paper was that they would play - that is what the said about last weekend too and only Day got in for a few plays:

im in eugene, not much has been said about it.

it will help us.

here is another issue on why this is a must win game for the ducks.

if they lose this game, this will be the ducks first losing season in 12 years. !!!!!!!!!!!

the reason we are all quiet, is that we are scared shitless!

also. time day, demtrius williams, should all be healthy and ready to play. they played a total of 2 snaps on saturday.

Dr. Pepper...

surprised this isn't getting more play in Eugene...you'd think the Ducks would pound on it. I think you are right, though, Many duck's are keeping it quite for fear of hearing it from OSU the entire off-season if the Ducks lose.

exactly, not just if we lose for bragging rights, but because we just dont have losing seasons.

three weeks ago we are sitting pretty at 4-1 in conference. we even have a decent shot at making the rose bowl if we beat cal. now we are facing no bowl game and a losing season.

this is our worst nightmare. and nobody wants to say anything for fear of writing that chapter, before the game is actually played.
