Not true. You must not have watched the show lately. They are adding 1 new million case for every contestant until someone wins 1million.

Makes me wonder if all these shows are just bs designed for entertainment and people arent really winning anything.

No, it's just the destructive nature of greed within ourselves that gets almost every gambler or investor in the end. Likely, these people have no experience in speculation of any kind, and the first time they are thrown into the mix, they are not strong enough to overcome the nature, and it destroys them every time. Watching this show is a good reminder of the irrational capabilities that are within all of us. Without strict discipline and constantly overcoming emotions, every gambler will beat themselves.
