Cheapest Rental Car in NYC?

Will be there for business...but want to drive up north. The first problem is that I'm not paying $700 for 4 days.
I feel like the city folk take a train to PA or NJ and rent from there, etc...
tips?

Hoboken seems to have much cheaper rates and close to manhattan.

When you return it to the same location you get the $40-$50 a day rental prices. When you drop it off at a different location, the price is 3x-5x more, no matter where you are. I rent cars alot for work.

I did a trip with a bunch of guys a while back, It was cheaper to buy an old beater van than rent one. It helped one of the guys was a mechanic (just in case) When we were done, we signed it over to a bum at a McDonalds. Needless to say he was surprised.

lol. I'm probably going to rent in Hoboken and return in boston. It's only $100 more...but less mileage/gas on the way back from up north. I tend to forget that have that people here don't have cars so they got to bend over
