It would have been a waste... If Stairs was announced, feliciano or another LHP would have came in, and Cholly may have then pinch hit a RH batter, or let Stairs face that LHP:

Stairs vs LHP: .239, HR every 23.5 AB
Stairs vs RHP: .272, HR every 18.5 AB
