Break it down. It's interesting because there are 7 games right off the bat that they should win -- home games vs. EIU, ULL, MN, IN, Iowa and @ NWU.

The remaining 5 are extremely tough. Mizzou this week they are +8.5. At Michigan is tough. At Penn State is tough, though doable. At Wisconsin, very tough. Then there is Ohio State in Champaign. Interesting revenge game for OSU.

But if they win the 7 they should win and will probably DD faves in most if not all those games, then they ought to be able to take at least 1 of the remaining 5 and reach 8 wins. 9 is a lot tougher than 8 though. O7.5+110 doesn't look too bad to me.

Hello, this is FISHHEAD posting as BILLSFAN..................

Talked at length with poster Illini about this yesterday.

It appears they are destined to win either 7 or 8 no matter how you look at it.

This than appears to be one OVER/UNDER to stay completely away from, as I'm sure there are many better wagers to be made on season win totals elsewhere.

When Iowa appears to be the toughest "projected win" on the schdedule to getting 7 wins, over 7 wins laying anything less than -160 would appear to be the play.

BUT, for me personally, always look at unders in these situations rather than the overs.

Again, recommending a pass to all consumers out there, including you poster Illini......stick with baseball, something you know something about.

No. 20 Illinois heads into the most intriguing matchup of college football's opening weekend, a prime-time date with No. 6 Missouri in St. Louis, bearing the burden of expectations.
This is the most promising Illini team in at least 15 years. It's also a team that will be tested sternly in its first five games. Add in trips to Penn State and Michigan, and Zook will have to draw on his considerable motivational skills, no matter what happens. Too many setbacks could erode the confidence. Similarly, a massive dose of success would turn up the heat in a different way.
That's why Zook is stressing the long haul, rather than gloom or euphoria, in the early going.
''People say the first game is a key, and it is a key,'' the engineer of the Illinois revival said. ''But if you don't win the game, you know exactly where you stand. You're getting beat by a pretty good team.
''If you do win the game, now you've got the pressures of the next problems -- overconfidence, all those things. However you look at it, there's going to be things to deal with. The key is to keep an even keel and just keep playing. The thing I've told the team is the schedule will give us an opportunity to get back to where we were.''
Where does Illinois stand coming off its unexpected Rose Bowl trip? It's certainly a much more complete and proven team than the one that took the field against Missouri on Sept. 1, 2007, and lost 40-34. After being down 37-13 with 21 minutes to play, the Illini closed to 37-34 in a wild second half. Backup Eddie McGee led a three-touchdown charge after Juice Williams was sidelined by a blow to the head early in the second quarter.
The trouble is, Mizzou also seems poised to be even better than last year. The Tigers return 10 starters on defense and a pack of their key skill players from a team that wound up 12-2 and was ranked No. 1 in the nation heading into the Big 12 championship game.
With fewer questions, the Tigers deserve to be the favorite. But despite having more mysteries, Illinois remains a dangerous underdog.
The key Illini questions revolve around their running game, their place-kicker and Martez Wilson, their budding star outside linebacker.
Will new tailback Daniel Dufrene, or one of his three backups, be an effective rusher? Will true freshman Derek Dimke, the most likely kicker, hold up under what could be intense pressure? Will Wilson, in his first college start, be up to the task of handling Chase Daniel, Mizzou's tricky quarterback, and a bunch of talented Tigers receivers?
Senior middle linebacker Brit Miller believes in Wilson, who figures to be in the spotlight, one way or another.
''I'm not worried about him knowing what to do,'' Miller said. ''I've been out there helping him, and now he doesn't even want that help. 'I've got it, Brit. I've got it.' When you take his athleticism with some knowledge of the game, he's going to be something.''
Illinois has been on the brink of consistent success before and not cashed in. It flopped after both of its bowl seasons under Ron Turner. Under Lou Tepper, even a world-class defense couldn't overcome a messy offense.
Now the Illini are trying to put together back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 1989-90, before John Mackovic bolted to Texas.
''Our kids are keenly aware of the fact that Illinois hasn't had back-to-back winning seasons in nearly 20 years,'' co-defensive coordinator Dan Disch said. ''They know it's a huge challenge. Last year is last year. Now we have to create our own identity, our own personality.''
And if that means a monster opener against Missouri, that's fine with the eager Illini.
''This is perfect,'' receiver Arrelious Benn said. ''With our tough schedule, it's the perfect game to start off with, to see where we're at as a team.''
The line: Missouri by 9.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP)—Juice Williams beat Michigan with an accurate arm, quick feet and a cool head.
Williams threw for 310 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 121 yards and two scores without making a mistake, leading Illinois to a 45-20 win over the Wolverines on Saturday.
The quarterback’s 431 yards of total offense for the Fighting Illini (3-2, 1-1 Big Ten) were the most any player has had at Michigan Stadium and it matched an opponent record against the Wolverines.
The Illini set a school record for points against Michigan, surpassing the 39 points Red Grange helped them score in 1924 as Memorial Stadium was dedicated, and they scored the most any team has at the Big House since Florida State had 51 in 1991.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP)—Minnesota sacked Juice Williams five times, including one that turned into a decisive touchdown on the way to a 27-20 upset on Saturday.
After Minnesota’s Willie VanDeSteeg sacked Williams at the Fighting Illini 9 late in the fourth quarter, Simoni Lawrence scooped up the ball and ran it in for a touchdown and a 27-13 lead for the Golden Gophers (6-1, 2-1 Big Ten).
Just a week after he put up 431 combined yards in a win over Michigan, Williams was 26-of-42 passing for 462 yards and two touchdowns. Illinois (3-3, 1-2) turned the ball over three times.
DeLeon Eskridge rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns, including a a 46-yarder, for Minnesota.

DETROIT (AP)—Tim Hiller threw two touchdowns and John Potter kicked three field goals to help Western Michigan beat Illinois 23-17 on Saturday.
The loss prevented Illinois (5-5, 3-3 Big Ten) from clinching bowl eligibility. The Illini will get two more shots to qualify for a bowl: next week against 12th-ranked Ohio State and on Nov. 22 at No. 25 Northwestern.
