Maybe a strange request but my gang would like to know from the regulars here what are your favorite sports. Which do you watch and or love to bet on. Obviously you guys like college football but...........

Especially interested in: Albatross, Mack, Russ, Coach, Conan, GoSooners, RunLeeRun, spokenword, Roll Tide, JBlonghorn, sdf, Winone, Hawker, Hache and Murphy. Welcome any others but these are the all season regulars.

Honorable Mention:

NBA...I never really got that interested until the Thunder came to town. They've put a little excitement back in this city. And I watch them closely enough to halfway know when they are playing good enough to cover. So that's followed by the occasional wager. But I only keep up with the Thunder.

I like all sports in general but the following are my top-five: Sadly, I'm not able to attend much anymore (the logistics of it all...parking/getting to the seats in the stadiums/field-houses/arenas etc.). I know TV doesn't match the real-thing, being in the middle of all the excitement but, it sure is second-best.

I wager on college football regularly with a local; I glean my picks right here on the Rx Forum); Our Rx Guys are just as good or better than those "pay for plays" hot-shots that tout all those phony win/loss records, and it's all for-free......and most of the guys are for-real class acts and damn knowledgeable.

1. College B.B. (wager sparingly during the season including the post-season play-offs).....it was my sport (H.S. and College) The game has really changed.....has it ever.
2. College F.B. (wager weekly during the season including the Bowls). (Played H.S. only).
3. Golf (Little or no wagering). Played recreationally (still do once-in-a-while).
4 NFL (Wager sparingly during the regular season and play-offs with a few "proposition bets" on the Super Bowl). (never played in the NFL, Canadian or any other professional league.
5. Major League B.B. (An occasional bet during the regular season and play-offs) Played H.S and "Bush-League" only......3rd Baseman.

Soccer: I still don't understand the sport......never will I guess.

Mack, I agree about soccer. I just can't watch it. No one has listed soccer as a favorite so far. I thought there would be a few.

#1 - by far, soccer ... nothing close. i can literally watch a 3rd division USA match on the computer more easily than a Nuggets/Blazers game. also my favorite sport to bet. between online and tv i probably watch on average 20 matches/week and have Sirius FC soccer on until Finebaum
#2 - college football

then it really drops...

from a pure fan perspective
1) Bama football - prob at least an hour a day is spent rummaging through various tide sites and/or listening to guys like finebaum and longshore (morning talk show out of montgomery)
2) soccer - anytime, anywhere, any team
3) Pitt basketball
4) Steelers football
5) Pens hockey

Coach, do you remember when running was a HUGE sport back in the 80's? ESPN used to televise literally every big marathon that was run. I still have myself on tape at the start of the race when I ran the San Francisco Marathon back in 1986. If running was as big today as it was back then, the sports books would probably be carrying the odds on all of these races.

People who run marathons (26 miles) are not human to me. The most I ever ran at one time was 10 miles and it took me 3 days to get over it...and that's when I was running 3 miles everyday which I did for many, many years.
I always seem to hit a wall at around 6 miles.

I trained all summer in Oklahoma running between 18-20 miles on the weekends in 90 degree heat to run that marathon. I went there just because of the cool temps. It was only 45 degrees when I started that race. I about froze my ass off. But I ended up finishing in the top 1,000 out of 10,000 runners with a time of 3:29. Lots of young whippersnappers who passed me by early in that race I saw puking on the side of the road later on. I think the San Fran hills were too much for them. The trick in marathoning you've got to know your limitations and learn to pace yourself. It was mostly half marathons for me from then on until I hurt my back. Running the marathon was mainly just a bucket list thing for me, just to see if I could do it.

US running has made a nice comeback (distance running). I doubt it ever gets back to where it was though. Not sure I'd ever bet on distance running (way too many variables).

Most of you know I'm an avid runner. I've had some injuries the last couple of years that have slowed me down. I've done 17 marathons in 11 states. I have a backburner goal of running a marathon in all 50 states, but that dream is fading quickly (I'm 43 now). My PR (personal record) is 2:58 (at Outer Banks Marathon, in 2010). I had just turned 40. I've run Boston, New Jersey (twice), Philadelphia (twice), Jacksonville (twice), Disney. In fact, I hold the distinction of "Fastest Floridian to ever run the Delaware Marathon" (I ran a 3:04 there in 2009 and no one has beaten it since). Delaware gives out certificates to anyone who sets a state record and $25!

World Cup/Euro Cup/Champions League - Watch and bet
March Madness - watch and bet
MLB and NBA - Bet mostly. Watch rarely unless its the playoffs.

I invested the $25 and have parlayed it into over $100!! Being a pro marathon runner is very lucrative these days!
