"Cloth masking didn't work but widespread usage of N95 masks definitely will" is something that only someone who was initially convinced that cloth masks worked would say.
All the sudden two years later we want to focus on N95 masks which only work if you put it on, don’t touch it and then throw it away after it’s intended use (surgery)

As a reminder, face masks used by the general public to prevent viral spread have only been granted emergency use authorization. Meaning even the FDA has not yet licensed them as safe and effective.
