Does anyone know what Remo is talking about when he says to Ace "Oklahoma/Michigan...How the hell did you get Oklahoma/Michigan..nobody had it, how did you do it"

Ace says "that's what it paid so well"

What are they talking about there?

Maybe they were something like a 9.5 pt dog and he took them on the Moneyline. So they were probably like +400 on the moneyline and he didn't take them getting the points.

I thought that too when I first heard it, so when he said it paid well, I figured it was either a mistake by the writers of the movie,or he just had the dog to win outright on the Moneyline.

good point!

I also love the scene where nicky and frankie are talking at the bar, its kind of muffled but if you listen they are discussing a line on the Chicago Bears game..

Nicky "what line did you get on the Bear game"

Franky "i got nine"

Nicky "the lines 8, we'll ask Ace if he don;t know nobody knows".."Ace what's the line on the bear game"

Ace "8"

Nicky "see"

Franky "Well howcome i got 9?"

Nicky "Cause your a jagoff"

Or something like that...it plays out much better on screen..

I think it was inside info. The game came in and everyone was surprised.

He had the scoop on the game, and only he had it.

Great movie, top to bottom

ps..it sure is annoying to have to try 5 times to get a response accepted lately..

The entire script is at the link above ...

We move past JOE, a guy at the bar entertaining a BRUNETTE and a BLONDE, to NICKY and FRANK MARINO at the other end. There are other bar patrons in the background.

JOE: (To the BARTENDER) Chase, couple of shooters for the
ladies.

BARTENDER: (Off-screen) All right.

ACE: (Voice-over) Yeah, we made a great pair. I made book and Nicky made sure we always collected. The old men loved us. And
why not? They all made money with us.

NICKY: (To MARINO) They payin'?

ACE: (Voice-over) How did Nicky collect?

MARINO: They pay every week, like they're supposed to.

ACE: (Voice-over) Don't ask.

NICKY: Then where the fvck is the money? I don't see the money.

(ACE enters, and greets the two girls.)

ACE: Hi, Melissa. Heidi.

BLONDE: Hi, Sam.

JOE: (To the GIRLS) Who's this guy?

MARINO: (To NICKY) Get the fvck out of here. It was nine. I laid nine.

(ACE approaches NICKY and MARINO.)

NICKY: It was eight. Ace . . . tell him the line on the Bear's game.

ACE: Eight.

NICKY: If he don't know, nobody knows. Told you it was eight.

MARINO: Well, how come I laid nine?

NICKY: 'Cause you're a jag-off. I would have fvckin' made you lay ten . . .

(ACE notices a pen lying on the bar. He taps JOE on the
shoulder.)

ACE: (To JOE) Excuse me.

JOE: What?

ACE: (He holds up the pen) Is this yours? Your pen?

JOE: Yeah, that's my pen. Why?

ACE: I ju- Well, it's a nice pen. I just didn't know whose it was. I thought it was yours. I didn't want it to get lost.

JOE: Well, thank you. Why don't you take that fvckin' pen and shove it up you ass, you fvckin' jag-off?

(NICKY looks over.)

ACE: Well, I was just offering you the -
(NICKY moves towards JOE.)

JOE: (Turning his back to talk to the girls, referring to ACE)
This fvckin' asshole.

(NICKY grabs the pen out of ACE's hand.)

MAN #1 (To JOE) Look out -

(Before ACE can react, NICKY grabs JOE and starts stabbing him
in the neck with the pen.)

- Joe! Look out, Joe! Look out!

(NICKY grunts while JOE gasps and groans. The BLONDE screams while NICKY's hand continues to plunge the pen into JOE's throat. JOE tumbles to the floor. NICKY pounces on him, still
stabbing and now kicking. JOE whimpers.)

NICKY: What's that? You hear? You hear a little girl, Frankie? You hear a little girl, Ace? Is that a little fvckin' girl?!
What happened to the fvckin' tough guy? Told my friend stick it up his fvckin' ass?! Huh?! Huh?!

ACE: (Over whimpers and pants) Wait a sec, Nicky, Nicky, Nicky. Ta-take it easy.

(ACE looks stunned. NICKY's still holding the bloody pen.)

ACE: (Voice-over) While I was tryin' to figure out why the guy was sayin' what he was sayin', Nicky just hit me. No matter how big a guy might be, Nicky would take him on. You beat Nicky with fists, he comes back with a bat. You beat him with a knife, he comes back with a gun. And you beat him with a gun, you better kill him, because he'll keep comin' back and back until one of you is dead.

FANTASTIC

GREAT MOVIE WITH SOME GREAT LINES.

THERE IS A VEGAS SCENE WHERE A GUY IS TRYING TO TALK ACE INTO RUNNING THE CASINO AT A CASINO'S POOL. I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE RIVERA BUT YET I NOTICED THE GLASS POOL INN WAS USED RIGHT BEFORE THAT SCENE IF I AM CORRECT.

I remember my first ever trip to Vegas, Jan 1995, they were filming at the Riviera then..

The scene's where they had the cashier's cage taped off with police tape, they were doing it that night.

Pretty cool...

No better place to film at to try an replicate the 70's that the Riviera, the place looks like it hasn't changed in 30 years!

I also grew up less than 30 mins or so from where Nicky (Tony Spliatro) was buried in the Indiana cornfield, I guess he got what he deserved..

Best line was the exchange between Remo and Franky over whether Nicky was doing Aces wife:

Remo: Franky, I want you to tell me the truth.

Franky: I always tell you the truth Remo.

Remo: Good. Franky, the little guy, he wouldn't be ****ing the jews wife would he, because if he is, its a problem.

I'll have to do some research, but I believe the Mich-Okl game had some hank-panky goin on. One team was delberately given poisoned food that made 2/3 of the team sick the day of the game. Frank Rosenthal knew about it and bet the healthy team and cleaned up.

A portion of Casino was filmed in the offices of The "O", Oscar Goodman. I was invited up to watch the filming and I brought my grandson, Anthony, who was mabey five at the time. We get up to the second floor offices and Anthony takes over my friend Vinnys desk outside Oscars office. He's having a good time playing when De Niro shows up in that mint green suit. A few moments later Scorsese shows up. A little guy mabey 5'4. Next is Sharon Stone with her entourage. She spots Anthony and heads right for him. She proceeds to start playing with him and making friends. It was genuine, no acting. She held up the whole operation, mabey ten minutes, to make goo goo with MY GRANDSON. Over the next few years I always remind Anthony so he won't forget. He's 13 now and noticing girls and now he mentions her to me!.....ScottyS

Is there a movie called The Gambler... with James Caan?

I remember a discussion here on the best gambling movie and I thought that was the one. Couldn't find it at the video store...

from Netflix DVD rentals

The Gambler (1974)

"As if getting tenure weren't enough of a gamble, James Caan is a university professor with a big problem: He can't stop betting on games of chance. Karel Reisz directs from a script by James Toback. A strong supporting cast includes James Woods, Vic Tayback, Lauren Hutton, Steven Keats, Paul Sorvino and Burt Young."

Was Lefty Rosenthal really that good? One line in the movie claims that whenever he bet, it could change the odds for every bookmaker in the country. Sounds a little far fetched. I also heard a couple of years ago that he has a stake in an online betting operation

was very sharp way back in the 60's and early 70's. Then he took over operation of the Stardust, just like Ace in the movie. Since he was ousted he has been handicapping and more or less earning a very good living off his reputation. Did he move lines like you mentioned, I doubt it, he always had a well respected opinion. When he bet, bookies moved the number his way, based on his reputation. This is not to say he did'nt win more than he lost. I believe today he lives in Southern Cal.
