I am an avid Sox fan and trend follower, and usually have my best success by far making selections around their games. I am 18-6 making red sox related picks this year, including 5 of the last 6 ones I made.
I usually fear that my postings will jinx my picks, but we'll see how it goes
Today, I would say the extremely intelligent pick is:
Detroit +110
This is still the right time of this season to bet against wakefield. Wakefield ALWAYS provides about 6 weeks of elite, unhittable, long inning ball for the Sox at some point during the season but then has about a month long crash before balancing the ship again. His stock is still riding way too high from his great start even though he has slumped into mediocrity in several of his last starts. The books haven't caught up to him yet. Wakefield in means Varitek is out in favor of Kottaras who is hitting about .200 with no power numbers. The designated easy-out....err....i mean hitter still hasn't figured it out and now has to face a historically tough lefty so he'll be dormant (what else is new?). Drew's bat may be out of the lineup today, and the spark of the order (Ellsbury) may be hushed by an experienced lefty.
Youkilis is also listed as questionable for his foot after leaving early last night.
One of the last times Wake appeared in Detroit, he let up 6 dingers even though the Sox managed to win a track meet. The first team to 4 runs wins this one, and I think Detroit will have that issue resolved by the 4th or 5th inning.
