Prior has said this guy is just as good as himself...let's hope he'll be a healthier pitcher than his former teammate!! Looking forward to watching him. He shut down Braves starting line up in Spring Training...now time for the real thing......

Barely two years after he was drafted, Anthony Reyes will make his Major League debut on Tuesday night. Reyes, the Cardinals' 15th-round pick out of Southern California in 2003, will take the mound against Doug Davis and the Brewers at 7:05 p.m. CT at Miller Park.

Reyes, 23, has spent the year at Triple-A Memphis, and for the most part he's carved up hitters in the Pacific Coast League. He's racked up more than a strikeout per inning while posting a 3.44 ERA in his second full professional season. Last year, he started at high Class A and went on to dominate Double-A, making a name for himself as a prospect.

The former teammate of Mark Prior's at USC will only be around for one start. The Cardinals are utilizing him in order to give their five regular starters an extra day of rest in the midst of a grueling stretch of the schedule. Reyes will have his contract purchased from Memphis before the game and will be optioned afterward. Reyes' opponent is a veteran lefty who will be none too thrilled to see the Cardinals. For his career, Davis has a 6.84 ERA against St.Louis.

also...first start for the cardinals tonight other than the 5 starters who opened up the season...not sure any other team in the league can say that.

I thought the same thing. Isn't an "ace" the #1 starter?

Will be interesting to see his box score in the AM.

I'll give you his numbers right now!!

6 1/3 innings
76 pitches
2 hits
1 walk
5 strike outs
2 runs
Both hits were in the 2nd inning....one being a big fly by Bill Hall.

Very, very impressive debut by the young phenom pitcher for the Cardinals!!!

   thank you. :drink:

I posted on him last week for his debut...not as good as Reyes debut...but his 2nd start was awesome. He will be a solid pitcher for years to come...much like Reyes....reyes will be shipped back to Memphis tomorrow though as he was just giving the Cardinals' starters an extra days rest since they have used the same 5 starters the whole season and only have 1 day off this month!

Reyes did look good tonight. Hope Tony Laroser does not decide to put the kid on the hill in game 1 of the NLCS this year.
