Canucks 2021 Plays

Okay here we go the puck drops tomorrow night on another Canucks season.

Before we get to a play my thoughts on the start of the season based on other season start ups & how will COVID impact the league.

A) At the start of any season always look at the Doggies for at least the first 5-8 games. Vegas is just in the dark as we are as who will do what at the start of the season. Further more so than at any other time in the season there is a competitive equalibrium due to the fact that there are few injuries .

B) No Preseason, More than ever this year the books are bit in the dark when it comes to who is good and who is not. Remember the NHL is small handle for most books & line movements are even more significant.

C) Lastly as with all leagues take note of changes on teams - especially in the coaching ranks, a new coach systems may take time to make an impact. Also Off season picks ups or deletions are a key think to watch as they too take time to show up .

Okay so this year I will stick with mainly Canucks plays and the odd outlier I see from other games.

Vancouver had to Jettison some key veterans in the offseason gone are Markstrom, Tanev, Toffoli and to a lessor degree Stetcher, Levio, & Fantenberg. Key Waivers Loui Eriksson and Sven Baertschi & Michael Ferland remains in LT IR these three players are significant albatrosses to our Cap space oh yeah and did I mention Luongos contract till haunts us.

Key new players - Holtby replaces the Markstrom and will start Wednesday but look for an even platoon between him and Demko
On Defense Travis Hamonic and Nate Schmidt replace Tanev and Stecher, I think this is an upgrade Schmidt = Tanev and Hamonic > Stetcher.
Other Defense still hanging around - Ollie Juolevi ( we draft this guy before Tkachuck) Jamie Benn, Brogan Rafferty and Jack Rathbone
The forwards will be filled in with a few unknowns and a key Draftee Nils Hoglander.

Okay so tomorrow - night as I mention Holtby is starting - TEAM MVP JT Miller has not been practising this weekend, Hamonic has been isolating as he got here late.

So I think we will be a bit shaky on the back end Tomorrow.

I forgot to mention how much the COVID situation will impact our plays look at the NBA games getting cancelled everyday stay on top of things.

Also the set up this year for the league back to back games in the same city, The Canadian division creates a ton of travel most impacted is Vancouver ...going to be a crazy year

Seer I agree the Canucks will finish above the OIL in the standings but tonight is too much to ask for the home town boys

Well that was a pleasant surprise the Canucks look to be in mid-season form and the Oilers looked bad totally disorganised on the back end and the Canucks shooters snipped some corners on Toskeinen. Bieksa summed it up if McDavid does register a point you pretty much guarantee the Oilers will lose.

I thought when the OIL tied it up in the 3rd I was okay here we go....

It was not all sunshine for the Nucks - A few gaffes with Holtby handling the puck but he did look pretty good covering the bottom of the net and Julivie looked a little timid a times

My plan was to come back with the Canucks tonight if they lost last night but now I am not sure and I definitely don't want to back the Oilers again, so i think I will pass

Okay rough start to the season time to bag a winner.

So far we have seen 2 favs lose on game 1 of a b2b only to come back with a vengence in game 2. I think zig zag could prove very fruitful for us whne competitive teams match up . Hard to won 2 straight in the NHL especially if you won the 1st game on the road. Coyotes supposedly the better team been favoured both games, think the yotes snap into it Saturday after noon

So this line tells you need to know Edmonton -103? We got to see the Oilers in their terrible new uniforms close up with 2 vs Canucks. Mcdavid Held in check lose, Mcdavid mad and runs rough shot over canucks win.

But in both of those games the The Oil opened at least -120 ...now they open -106 vs MONTREAL.

In the Off season - Calgary raided the Canucks Free Agent Cupboard - Signing away Markstrom, Josh Levio & Chris Tanev , then they scooped up Back up back goal Louis Dominque. It started to become a bit of running joke in Vancouver, cant beat us might as well sign away our players. While it will seem odd to see those guys lined up across the line once the puck drops it will be game on.

It's interesting this line jumped very similar to the Canucks 1st game vs Oilers ....Right now I don't like what I am seeing so I will pass and just watch hockey as Fan - I am more interested the RAVENS BILLS game

Fading this system from the action network - Play a well rested Road FAV playing a team that did not make the PO's last year.But when I drilled down on the system record I notice teams over -180 went to OT or lost outright.

If that hits I think the Under is live to - under is strong on my chart

So whats wrong with Vancouver you say - They looked good on opening night and then got smoked the following game and basically mailed in Calgary over the weekend.

Couple of theories

A) They lost too much character in the off season - That was a tight knit group in last season but they lost the glue
B) What they brought in has not gelled yet - not buying that the team is terrible in both special teams categories which is all the returning players.
C) The teams needs some time - NO preseason, a couple disrupted days due Covid....yeah maybe there is some conditioning issues but they arent losing games late its more there is not much structure to the play
D) No Contract for the Coach - Yup Green is on the last year of his contract with no extension - Maybe the team is tuning him out and sending a message to Management.

Just not sure what I do know is they have not looked good and they better figure it out fast because here come the flying frenchmen who look amazing so far.
