The were worried 200 years ago about the government taking our civil liberties away.

Not at all TT. I just get amazed reading stuff from 200 years ago that just is right on still till today.

Those bastards new big government would tax us to death,go to war when we shouldnt, and try to take away our freedoms.

How different does that sound to what is today?

Don't even get me started. The US gov't as we know it today is one seriously corrupt machine on many levels.

How much pocket lining did Exxon have to do to get their Valdez fine slashed? What an absolute crock of shit.

The scary part is that we may have another civil war within the next few decades.

The spooky part is that, 500 years from now, historians will be talking about it as a continuation of the first one.

What makes you think the human race will still be around in 500 years?

I figure the odds are high, given that we've made it this far. What do you see as the major threat? Nukes? A pandemic? Asteroid?

Major threats: Chemical, biological and nuclear weapons easily transferred. Pandemic. Global warming. In the 20th century, the acceleration of the industrial world has made the world much smaller and the population growth dramatic. By the end of the 21st century, the conditions on this planet will be unbearable IMHO and the human race will just be trying to survive.
