I'm not sure if they could legally do it with the Pac-10 tie in, but if Pete could wiggle his way back into a Texas-USC Fiesta, then he would have a solid shot at part of a national title (as would Texas). As it stands, Oregon State/Oregon gave the bowl season a real kick in the nuts last night.

The Rose Bowl "tie-in with the Big 10 has been around for a very long time (tradition/money you know). Not so suddenly, it isn't the the "Big Daddy" of the bowl games anymore with the BCS championship game with all the "hoopla" still to come.

That, along with the fact that the Big Ten Champion isn't necessarily a national power with a lofty ranking leaves for nothing more than a great parade and a decent New Years Day football game at best.

It still is a great "treat" for the boys from the Midwest to go to Southern California, during the height of winter, and play a football game (ho-hum for the California boys).

Penn St (the non-national power who was ranked in the top 5 most of the season and had only 1-loss) will play USC in the Rose Bowl

The other non-national Big Ten power Ohio St (who lost to the #1 and #3 teams in the country at the time of their losses) will play Texas in the Fiesta....

Bama/Florida winner goes to Title game...loser plays Utah in the Sugar

Oklahoma plays Bama/Florida winner in BCS title game.....

Cincinnati and BC (IMO) will play in the Orange Bowl....

USC should take A Capital One Bowl so they can cover the spread:nohead:

IF usc and texas by any chance plays the ONLY consolation either team is getting is a season ending #2 ranking.

Oklahoma is not yet in and has to beat Missouri next week or otherwise Texas would go to the Championship game.

Assuming Oklahoma beats Missouri, the only thing you got wrong is the Sugar has the pick before the Fiesta.

Meaning no way does the Sugar end up with the non-bcs opponent again this year. Looks like it will be Bama/UF vs Ohio State while the Fiesta would have Texas vs Utah

That is correct....assuming OU does beat Mizzou (I would be shocked if OU lost).

Just to play devil's advocate with you....wouldn't the Sugar take an undefeated and higher BCS ranked Utah over a 2-loss Ohio St team?

You and I both know that Ohio ST travels as well if not better then any team in the country...their fan base is second to none in sheer size and for all intents and purposes is better team then Utah....I am under the impression that since Utah has an auto-matic BCS bid they would be the first selected as opposed to the final at-large....

terrible spot for USC. Team is bummed out for prospect of 6th or 7th visit to rose bowl in last 5 yrs. 4th new years "Rose bowl" in the last 5 years. These are young kids that want South beach or other exciting locale.......AND any team other than another big 10 punching bag. Remember Michigan, Illinois and Michigan? (be kind no mentioning Texas......yes that was in the rose bowl)

Their only realistic out would be a loss.

I'll be honest, I'm going to tease ucla up to 39.5 or 42.5. I think USC will win but likely sleepwalk through the 1st half. This could make UCLA's year, and no matter what ends their year. UCLA has 2 of the best asst coaches around. Dewayne Walker defense and Norm Chow on offense. I think USC's defense out scores its offense.

We'll see.

I don't think any team has a realistic shot at a split title. If OU or UF win the title game it will be hard for the AP to rank anyone ahead of them. I don't see it.

USC won't care about the Penn St game nearly as much as Penn St, and that's the only thing that worries me and the only thing that will stop me from drilling my second biggest play of the year on USC with only OU vs Tech being bigger.

Also if there is a choice I don't know anyone that would take Utah over Ohio St for their bowl game. People would care about Alabama vs Ohio St, nobody would care about Alabama vs Utah. At least bama could win that game though. I'm hoping they get the Utes though because I want to see Texas vs tOSU.
