Eventually we could go bankrupt ? That is what happen to Russia. I know this is far fetched but does anyone think we can continue to police the world and maintain this expensive Gov't.

Jobs which create income tax revenues are leaving this country at an alarming rate. I know in the computer industry jobs are going offshore to India. Many Large companies, GE and others are paying programmers $ 15.00 bucks per hour. These companies are not contributing to social security and unemployment taxes and the USA is not getting anything in return.

Perhaps now that we've grabbed 300 billion barrels of oil reserve, nearly half of what is left on the planet, according to estimates.

What's alarming is the thought that rather than being part of the global community that we should rule it. I thought we were in the business of getting rid of dictators???

We will not be able to police the world, that's why we are setting these countries up with a chance to police themselves. (Afghanistan, now Iraq) Iraq will definitely pay us back with oil.

KMAN, was wondering if you had read this thread regarding the folly of "setting up these countries with a chance to police themselves" as you call it. It is this self-righteous folly that we cannot afford, as none of these places will ever get off of the dole.

In fact not even a year later Afghanistan is showing signs of becoming unravleed, as is linked in the thread (the thread is a little long; if you want to go straight to the article in question it is here.)

Just wondering how this sort of thing gets justified over and over and over again, after a string of spectacular failures going back more than a century to the Phillipines, and continuing next year with [insert failed fiefdom]
