The Panthers total wins 8.5 -113 (Pinn). Looking at the schedule Carolina plays this year I can see a very good Panther team winning that 9th. game.

2004 Schedule

Sept. 13 Green Bay 9:00 p.m.
Sept. 19 at Kansas City 1:00 p.m.
Sept. 26 Open Date
Oct. 3 Atlanta 4:05 p.m.
Oct. 10 at Denver 4:15 p.m.
Oct. 17 at Philadelphia 1:00 p.m.
Oct. 24 San Diego 1:00 p.m.
Oct. 31 at Seattle 4:05 p.m.
Nov. 7 Oakland 1:00 p.m.
Nov. 14 at San Francisco 4:15 p.m.
Nov. 21 Arizona 1:00 p.m.
Nov. 28 Tampa Bay 1:00 p.m.
Dec. 5 at New Orleans 1:00 p.m.
Dec. 12 St. Louis 4:15 p.m.
Dec. 18 at Atlanta 8:30 p.m.
Dec. 26 at Tampa Bay 1:00 p.m.
Jan. 2 New Orleans 1:00 p.m.

Not an easy schedule but its doubtful if the Panthers will ever be more than a 6 point dog in any game (if healthy). Week 0ne:

631 Green Bay Packers +1.5 Points +103
632 Carolina Panthers -1.5 Points -113

That is a murderous road slate though: Philly, Denver, Seattle and KC?? And the division isn't easy either. Pushing it to expect more than 9 wins.

I got them 7-1 at home 5-3 on the road. Philly goes 6-10

Bottom line whether its 9,10,11 or 12 they look good to cover the 8.5.

5-3 on the road? I see 2-6. 7-1 at home looks doable so that is how I come to 9 wins. Not because they can't win on the road, but because look how sadly skewed the slate is for them. The easier touches look likely at home, the harder ones on the road. And that target is on their back, everyone will be gunning for them this season. I say 8 or 9 wins are very likely results. The division won't be easy either...

I already bet it over, had them and the Pats over in wins last year, good luck.

wilheim,

Carolina had too many come from behind and close games last year just to finish 11-5. (Remember Week Two when they blocked an extra point against Tampa Bay with no time left on the clock to send the game into overtime, eventually winning by a score of 12-9). The ball definitely bounced their way more often then not.

It will be tough to duplicate their 5-1 divison record from last season also. Ten wins seems to be a tall order. We will see.

Big Lou

p.s. - Tough way to close out the season, playing five division games in a six week span.

I looked at their results from last year, sure they were lucky to win a couple of games, but all year they were only blown out once (Oct 19th Tennessee). Every other game they could have won, including the Super Bowl. This team plays great D. and will be very competitive every week.

Since the NFL went to 16 games, here is how the superbowl particiapnts faired the following year. 82 and 87 strike years are excluded.

1979 12 11
1980 11 8
1981 10 7
1983 12 14
1984 12 11
1985 10 12
1986 14 11
1988 8 7
1989 14 8
1990 14 5
1991 9 11
1992 12 12
1993 12 7
1994 9 11
1995 10 10
1996 10 13
1997 11 14
1998 6 5
1999 10 13
2000 7 10
2001 7 9
2002 4 7

So 30 of 42 times, the teams in the sb won more than 8.5 games the following year.

Pancho are these results in metric or something? Would be easier if Raiders went 4-10 and Bucs went 7-9. You lost me here...OF

Now I get it...Duh

Those stats are interesting but not really that important. IMo Carolina (I am not a fan) is an up and comming team and definitely no flash in the pan. I can't recall where, but I remember Bill Parcells talking about the two games Dallas played against them last year as being the most physical games the Cowboys were in all year. The Panthers flat out hit, just watch them week one against Green Bay on MNF.

I really loved the Panthers last year, especially when dogs. But I remember Tampa won the super bowl. Looked much better than Panthers after super bowl, and fizzled at start of regular season. Never to recover. Were they a 10 1/2 or 11? My point is you never really know what you are getting. What if they regress? Jake gets knocked out? Rest of division improves? Will they sneak up on anybody this year? I am not saying you are right or wrong, just questions you should ask? Plus the hold is 4+ months, for a lay juice bet. I'd rather have the bank available for weekly betting, all 17. Best Wishes...OF

Carolina was outplayed in several games last year but somehow pulled them off by squeaking by with wins. Too many question~marks really, starting with Delhomme. Can he perform as he did last year? Panthers also lost some key secondary guys on defense that may hurt. And of course, we all know that Atlanta will be better this year if Vick stays healthy
. All 4 teams could finish with around the same records, 8-8 , 9-7.......Which ones land where is a tossup.......
