Can someone explain to me what reputation points are??

Today I noticed a little star under my name. When I moused over it, it said that I had accumulated 10 reputation points. What does this mean?? Is it good, bad, or irrelevant? I checked around the site and didn't see anything, so if a mod could enlighten me I would greatly appreciative!

I'm not entirely sure how it works, but you basically get rep points for posting good stuff and being a loyal RX poster. I have no idea if posters can give it out or if a mod has too. Wish I knew more but if you are gaining rep points, you are doing something well. Congrats.
