Interesting to see GottaWinToday respond. I do think that he could be beaten if the 2nd and 3rd place competitors were willing to take chances. IF there was only a prize for first place, then about 10 players would still have a shot. All they have to do is pick the maximum of 6 plays EVERYDAY and on some days they will pick up 6 units or more. If Scooby only plays 1 or 2 plays a day, and everyone else DOES THE SAME THING, then no one can catch him. Gottawin only plays like 1 play a day. It is like he is trying to coast for second place. Is $500 that much to you???? Heck I bet like 10 times that amount everyday and am certian that you bet more than that everyday yourself or at least you talk a good game. If it were me, then I would take the chance of catching up and winning the contest by picking more game everyday. You would probably average gaining about 2 units a day and sometimes get 6 units per day. With a few losses from ScoobySnacks, then you will be set and you will overtake first place. Of course, he will probably start picking a few more games when you get close and he wont allow you to overtake him, but it is a thought. If he only plays 1-2 plays a day, then he is not going to run away from anyone in the top 5 positions if they can go 6-0 a few days in a row. Definitely possible in hockey, easily done in baseball. Here is an example
We had a BIG baseball contest last season on another site. Everyone put up $500 in the contest and it was 70% winner share and 15% second place share. With those odds for first and second place, it is worth taking a shot for first place. The "house" kept 15% for running the contest which was pretty tough to do since there were 75 competitors. Now here is what happened.
In late August 4 competitors were pretty much way ahead of the competiton. One guy was 110 units up and second place was about 80, followed by third place at 75 and fourth was like 70 or so. Well we sort of made the mistake of NOT setting a limit on the # of games per day, BIG MISTAKE!! If a few minutes then you will realize why I am so pissed, because I was the guy with 110 units as of August 18th. Anyway on with what transpired. As people know, baseball is one of the easiest sports to make money in, likewise a contest would be easy as well(I make most of my bankroll in the baseball season as well).
So towards the end, I started to not post too many picks per day and I lost a few units one week. Well EVERYONE behind starting picking like 5-10 games per day. I didnt even post plays for 4 days cause i was out of town so I didnt even see it coming. Then I got back and I still didnt check the past results, I just kept playing 1-3 games a day. Well to make the story short, I actually ended up losing the contest by 4 units when the guy went 9-2 the last day of the season and i went 3-1. Now I know that all I had to do was just take his same games, but i had stuff to do that day and he didnt post his plays until like 2 minutes before the deadline!!! SMART MOVE!! Because i was going to bet his EXACT same games but had to leave 1 hour before the limit. I wasnt expecting him to go 9-2 either. Oh well, the prize money would have been just gravy anyway, but still pissed me off.
I dont remember the exact numbers but it went something like this
1st place 130 units
2nd place 126 units
3rd place 119 units
4th place 100 units
Yes believe it or not, EVERYONE caught up to me and i was actually in 3rd place until the last week of the season. That vacation week really cost me. So as you can see, if there is NO REAL reason to come in 2nd or 3rd, then people behind the leader do still have a chance
