I cant remember one single time in the history of the NFL where PI was ever called on a hail mary until yesterday.

Can anyone come up with 1 single time in NFL history where PI was called on a hail mary.

Not only PI but offensive PI.

That is just incredible to call that in that spot.

Save the " it was PI" post.

Yes we all know it was PI(barely).

But the point is if you dont call PI on the last 10000 hail mary plays why call it on this one?

There is PI on every single hail mary pass.

Its just one of those things you dont call.

Until yesterday.

IJimmy didnt even need to put his hands on him. I think he would have caught it regardless. Dude flopped like he played for Duke too.

Im talking the classic hail mary chunk it into the end zone type hail mary.

And I was on record a few weeks ago saying that steve smith call was BS even though I had the Bengals in that game.

Chop, I know you are a Saints man. And I understand your point. But knowledgeable football fans all recognize that there was an obvious violation. "Barely" or not.

Bigger problem to me is when (similarly) there is never a foul call on a last shot situation in baskets. (Unless it is LeBron) Reason that bothers me is because football is expected to be a physical game. The way they call the last procession in a basketball game….. gives unfair advantage sometime to thugs with little talent who are just willing to rough the shooter up.

No doubt about that.
He should win an academy award for that performance.

50-60 yard pass with seconds left in the game, yea its a hailmary lol

I don't think that Steve smith was a Hail Mary.

Listened on the radio when it happened and just saw the replay. Terrible call. He didn't gain advantage from touching the defender. The dude didn't even know where the ball was. The line was 6.5 and they would have covered. Going to OT the the refs knew they could only win by 6(9 is possible but highly unlikely)

Also Chop.... an obvious violation on THAT (Chuck it into the end zone) type of pass really should not be allowed to change the result of a game base on that one play.

I know you are right on based on history. But to bail a team out and award then the win on just a "chuck" play..... I don't know?

It was bullshit.

Im not even going to argue if it was PI or not.

Even if it was I want 1 example in NFL history before yesterday where a PI was ever called on a hail mary.

I could post a clip of ever HM in NFL history and there was some sort of non called PI on every single HM that has ever happened.

Why call it yesterday?

I have, Steve Smith certainly does qualify but such a call was made on the exact jump ball play you're citing either this year or last, and I either started a thread or posted about such at that time

I can't stand modern day officiating, there's new bullshit every week in someway. So while I empathize with your position, officiating is an epidemic that plagues games from opening kickoff to final whistle

and penalties between defenders and receivers are the worst of the worst, it's all out of control. Hence, you're not alone, we're all in this together, You just have to hope the bullshit goes your way more often than not.

My only guess is that usually on a HM, there's a whole pack and the refs don't have a good view of things. The refs had a clear view of these two, he clearly committed PI and he gained a huge advantage in doing so. Without pushing off, he probably doesn't catch the pass.

its been called countless times chop, problem is, it doesn't get stored in your memory like the rare times they actually make the catch, nor does the video get put up on youtube etc

I agree with this ...and would add that usualy a hail mary is a "jump ball" situation , but this pass appeared to be underthrown and Graham had to come back to the ball thus knocking a defender down.

So chop instead of worrying about how often its called , your invetigation should be focusing on whether Brees underthrew the ball or if Graham ran to deep.

Why are the Saints and their fans such whiners?

It was a foul. Clearly, not in dispute, which is why 2 officials immediately threw flags.

Maybe if the Saints played a better game, Kap completed a whopping 14 passes after all, then they wouldn't be in that position.

Where are these countless times you speak off? I have seen over 1000 games. I don't remember it happening countless times.
Willie brought up one time.
i did not happen to see the game he is talking about but I will take his word for it.

But even if it did happen once last year that's not countless times being called .

PI happens on every single Hail Mary play.
