Hiya Doug, that could be a tough life you are steering her into. What I am seeing are a lot of East European girls over here for Summer help. Polish, Lithuanian, Hungarian, Ukrainian. All college kids who come over and work for whatever they get paid. Then when peak season is over, they all trickle back. I used to talk to them constantly when I was working slots. Had I not been married, there were two I would have pursued. A lot of employees, pit bosses swoop on them. I just feel it is an exploitive position, whatever the money. I am doing my best to get son into college, daughter 9 months behind him, law school. No offense, you know her much better than I, but it sounds like you are selling her short. Whatever happens, I wish you the best...OF

No disrespect cause you have told us now who the girl is, but....

Lets be honest.

A part of the job is working hard and giving good service. This part will make her a decent living.

To go to the next level she will need the rest..

The rest is great looks, especially having a nice rack and showing them off, and also the ability to flirt like hell and be "suggestively sexy" to the patrons.

Like or not... These are the facts!

yeah actually after reading what OF said, I echo those thoughts. It actaully makes me sad to think of an 18 year old girl doing that. and really what is the big deal of getting 100k. what 18 year old girl needs 100k? is she making 90k now? is that the issue? just plain silly to even think this way. if you have the talent to get good grades in college of course that is what she should do.

You know, I always had the feeling that the most successful gals made a part of their money outside the hotel. Not to say "hooking" or for some sort of sex. Maybe just "chipping" around with guys and gambling, and receiving great meals and entertainment for free.

are you talking about Foxwoods? she could make good money there. Getting a job as a casino cocktail waitress would be FAR SUPERIOR in pay and benefits to working as a bar cocktail waitress just about anywhere.

does she like cigarette smoke though? and she would have to plan her life a bit. either get married by 35 or have a lot of money ( very unlikely) saved up by then. you DONT want to be shlepping drinks your whole life. Its great and fun for the young, but too tough on adults. you can make a living as a 40 year old as a waitress or cocktail, but it would not be any fun.

Doug,

I would never want any 18 year old female family member in such a vulnerable position. She likely doesn't have the worldly experience to know how to effectively counter the inevitable constant advances she'll have as a cocktail waitress.

It may seem she can't get through college, but I assure you she can. From your description, it sounds like she'll make friends fast in college. Those peers will effortlessly apply peer pressure to do well. She can always go back to being a waitress.

I've seen more than 1 cocktail waitress do well in their youth only to take a huge dive on the wage ladder once their youth was spent.

Exactly... How many very successful women do you see out there that never went to college and were cocktail waittress' their whole life?

And to be honest with you -- if she is interested in not having an "intelligent" job and making money off of her looks, why not be a stripper? You'll make a lot more.

actually i take back what i initially said. i kind of missed the part about she may not be college material. well maybe its a good idea. really, how many decent jobs can a young lady get besides sales without a college education.

Another good point robf. One major difference, if she does get knocked up in college, she is much more likely to be in a lasting relationship with someone who will eventually be solid financially.

Very good point cardfather, get knocked up by a dealer, or a hopeful college grad with a long term career? A lot of young women have 2 plans in college, get an education, get a meal ticket. Sometimes both plans are with one result. Other times, the meal ticket gets her pregnant. Best Wishes...OF

A friend of mine has a daughter that is very good looking and making a considerable sum of money being a waitress.....

key being that she works in a real upscale bar where all the suit n ties hang out and drink exotic mixed drinks......she's making great money right now just working part-time, going to school also....

Like most jobs that depend on looks, be it waitressing or modeling or exotic dancer....once the looks go so does the money......maybe she's looking for something long term by going to school on the side....looking out for her future when she's 40 or 50 and looks like it....

It is good that you look out for her Doug. Contrary to what most of the people say here I totally agree finding her some job now makes more sense than muddling through college at this point. If people aren't good students and aren't motivated they shouldn't be in college, they make everything crowded for others and they have no idea where to go with it. People like that should go and find some work. After some time they might find the motivation and determination they need to make college worth something to them, but too many 18 year olds just go to college so they can put off getting on with their lives.

I don't know if cocktailing is her thing, but if she can line up a gig at a place like Foxwoods sure is no harm in trying it out. But not sure about if they will let someone under 21 do it, it is a big no no in most states for underage servers to dispense alcohol. And by all means lets remember she is young. She needs to learn things on her own and on her own time. While you would love for her to make good money in a career like this, let her make that choice herself. She is far too young to have her life plan laid out for her yet.

Doug- You can't ask these fvcking animals a question on this kind of board or you will get a response like you did above.

Clay Henry is 100% wrong though in a casino even working the slots you make more then a buck a day. (And that is in cash)
I would say 50k is more like the norm. If you are a decent waitress in a good spot you can make much more.

Personally I wouldn't want anyone in my family around the scummy life of a casino. She will grow up real fast in the world of a casino. Tons of sexual discrimination goes on and the girls are too afraid to say anything for fear or retaliation. Once you are black labeled "a trouble maker" it is hard to get in another casino.
