Oakland a fate worse than death. Can anyone tell me why players resign there? Why would they want to stay there? Just don't get it...

He won it last year in JUCO, I understand that anybody that talented would make any JUCO team very good, but you can't win any championship on talent alone.

T Hawk Keep hatin bro. No denying? Really? If you can point to me one article that links AU to a pay for play, I'd like to see it. Even that donkey raper Thayer Evans for Foxsports who has tried his best hadn't come up with anything. Really, it doesn't matter, We won it on the field fair and square.

Can't read defenses? Really? AU plays in the SEC with the best coaches and best players in the nation. Any QB who completes 67% for 3000 yards and 30 TD against 7 int in the SEC can read defenses pretty damn well. Hell, he had a better rating, as many TDs and less picks than Mallet.

Im not sure he'll be good in the pros, but he's better than Russell and he throws much better than VY. He's got a quick release, it fairly accurate, and throws a pretty ball.

It's very doubtful that Cam Newton will be any more successful in the NFL than a Vince Young. The amount of duo role QB's who try for the NFL and actually make it are still rare. And the formula for making it in the NFL still remains being a great pocket passer who is accurate (which Newton showed me last night he is not) and a QB who can read NFL defenses on a consistent basis. I have my doubts he can do this.

Cam wasn't at his best last night, but he still made some good plays at times.

Here are the facts though:

He showed up at a JUCO for one year and won a national title (not as easy as it sounds IMO)

He showed up at Auburn for a year and won a national title (he wins again)

2 Years= 2 National Titles all in his first year at the place and the Starting QB

Successful dual threat QB's are rare, but then again, so is an athlete like Newton. I think Vince Young is going to be the standard by which Cam will be judged.

He certainly wont be able to run 20 times a game in the pros, but hell, if Mike Vick, or even Josh Freeman to a certain extent, can be successful, why not Cam. Vick is horribly inaccurate. Vick is also short, which Cam is not.

Cam has proven to be a winner under intense scrutiny. VY would have literally killed himself under the same circumstances.

Black QB's are just more high profile when they play at the position. So we hear more about them. But I guarantee you the percentage is just as high of white QB's who fit this mold and don't make it in the NFL. And the book is also still out on Tebow.

This list is a couple of years old but make your own judgement for those who got drafted in the last 20 years. I would say the top black quarterbacks of all time are Warren Moon (he is a Republican though) and McNabb. Culpepper was a beast who got hurt too much. The late Steve McNair was as tough as nails. As far as the current crop Josh Freeman and David Garrard had nice seasons in 2010.

A recent study showed that 1 out of 3 African American quarterbacks drafted were converted to another position. Brad Smith and Randle-El come to mind. Minnesota tried to make Wade a wide out.

As far as the Wonderlic, the test is designed to measure a player’s I.Q. through a 50-question test administered in 23 minutes. Vince Young had a score of 16 and won the 2006 Rookie of the Year award. Hall of Fame quarterbacks Dan Marino and Terry Bradshaw both scored a 15 while colossal bust Quincy Carter scored a 30. Here is a sample question: “Paper clips sell for 23 cents per box. What will 4 boxes cost” — take all the time you need. — The average score for the 71 African American quarterbacks from the 271 quarterback sample size was 19 (high scores belonging to Bruce Eugene (41) and Darrell Hackney (40) with low scores by Oscar Davenport (6) and Vince Evans (8).
— The average score for the 196 White quarterbacks from the 271 quarterback sample size was 26.5 (high scores belonging to Jason Mass (43), Drew Henson (42), and Alex Smith (40) with low scores for Jeff George (10) and Hall of Famers: Dan Marino, Jim Kelly, and Terry Bradshaw (all scored a 15)
– The forty-six NFL First Round draft choices in the 271 quarterback sample size scored an average score of 24.6 (high scores belonging to Alex Smith (40) and Eli Manning (39) with a low score by Jeff George (10). Other notable scores included Peyton Manning (28), Michael Vick (20), and Donovan McNabb (14) with Steve McNair, Terry Bradshaw, Dan Marino, and Jim Kelly all having the same score of 15.

As far as Cam Newton is concerned he definitely could have used another year in college to address his QB skills. Personally I have no idea why he came out this year. He will likely be the 3rd QB picked this year and next year he was looking at possibly being the 2nd Qb picked behind QB Luck of Stanford. Right now he is a QB project and any NFL team taking him now has to be willing to wait and teach. Bad bad decision in my opinion but with some kids money talks. I'd hate to see him not make it because he left early and didn't get the necessary experience and grooming...

He went pro because AU's contract extension wasn't enough :) He definitely could use some more work, however, AU loses a ton and I truly believe his stock would go down if he stayed another year. Im glad he left, he & AU both would struggle with the expectations next year. No way he comes close to the season he had this year. Better to go out on top.

A solid piece of evidence about his dad being offered at MS St.... and that school was Cam's first choice because of his coach, his friend.... $180,000 to be exact.... but because of his Dad's pure love of the sport and his LONGTIME association with Chizik & Co. that EVERYONE knew about (including you and me).... you're right, Auburn was Cam Newton's NATURAL preference. (After all, $180,000 is an insurmountable sum of cash to beat in this world of destitute alumni and their cash strapped alma maters the south.) Personally I don't understand why he would have ever considered playing for UF to begin with. Obviously a lapse in judgment. Makes perfect sense to me. You too bro? I'm glad I'm not the only one that sees it. What money? Doesn't money always come to the surface whenever anyone asks about it? Why shouldn't it? Even Reggie Bush and everyone associated with him sang like nightingales -- stonewall it, that's downright dishonest. How dare anyone suggest such a thing in Cam's case? Obviously a super bowl ring is next.

Guess Im not following what you're saying here Conan. Sounds a little like drunken rambling. Im not saying now or have I ever said there is no way he was paid. What Im saying is there is no public evidence linking AU to a pay for play scheme with Newton. They (NCAA and others) have certainly looked, so either AU hid it very well or it didn't happen. IMO Cecil Newton schemed with Kenny Rogers to try to extort money from some MSU boosters. When that didn't happen, where else is he going to go in the SEC to run the spread? He can't go back to Florida

The NCAA, the SEC, & the Newtons don't want to see anything happen with this, so who involved gains from airing any dirty laundry. Nobody. Lloyd Lake was pissed and he wanted his money back, that's why the Reggie Bush thing never went away. I would be surprised, not shocked, if anything official ever comes back up on this. Cecil Newton is a Dirty Mofo, he spit in AU face when he showed up at the Championship game. He's still meddling with Cam, setting up workouts and shit. Cam needs to distance himself from his father, at least publicly.

I believe Cam tops the 250 lb mark.....He already has a weight problem at a young age. We all know he leads the "good Life"....Plenty of money, lots of food & drink and the inevitable flock(s) of women that hound him on a daily basis. I don't believe he has that certain type of discipline to sustain him in the NFL..............

We'll see starting with the Super Bowl in two weeks and on, through the off-season and into next year. Football in general and the NFL in particular is a non-forgiving sport/proposition, once you "blink" it's all over.

"A weight problem"? Your kidding right? He is 6:6 of chiseled muscle and can run over or around anyone in the league. Just went 17-1 with an average group of recievers and backs. And who cares if he dances around. If you score TDs you can do whatever the hell you want.
