Guys Im sure some of the attention being poured over CC is due to possibility of a TRIPLE CROWN. But I need thoughts from those that follow racing more than I do, IS THIS NOT A LITTLE EXTREME??? Or is it to be expected because the horse is that good?? Like win by 10 lengths good...... Im sure this horse is going to grow wings and fly to a victory this w/e per the media.

Anyway, my point here is that most always such media attention is the kiss of death in most other sports.....(eg: the broncos this past SB)
When they hype a certain team in NFL CFB NBA... they most never live up to the hype.

So I know 1st hand this "THEORY" works regularly in other sports, does it hold any water with the ponies in races this big????

thx in advance guys for any thoughts on this.......good luck

Well, let's look st a few things. Horse racing hype like this isn't the same as other sports. In the past 20 years, the other horses that had won the two triple crown races entering Belmont didn't have anything like Cali Chrome is receiving with the media attention.

First, they already put a telephone line into the winners circle so the president can congratulate everyone in the winners circle after the race (1st time ever done)

2nd, the owners of Affirmed (1978 triple crown winning horse & the last horse to win it all), the owner of Secretariat will also be at Belmont & 3 different jockeys that had won the triple crown will also be on hand. These people were not at Belmont when Smarty Jones or the other horses were going for the crown.

3rd, yes he is as good as the hype & even better.

I could go on & on with other things but I will tell you right now, don't try to beat Chromeo because you will lose.......he will win the triple crown!

dude, it looks like you were given the latest Cal Chrome fan club letter in reply. You are right to ask that question with the hype factor. First of all, every time since 1978 when a colt could potentially win the triple crown, it gets hyped just like this. Big Brown got even more hype than CC because there was nobody saying he would not win it. IMO, he is not as good as the hype but we will know after Saturday's race. Last years 3yo champ, Will Take Charge, was not even a consideration for that mention after the Preakness (with exception of Lukas) but there are MANY more races to come. Beware of the overzealous who always see the next Sectetariat coming along, they are usually wrong. Others here have posted some interesting picks, instead of putting CC on top of trifectas for instance box him with a 3 or 4 others and hope that CC comes 4th. If he does win, you will still profit a little, if he is not 1st you will score big.

Haaaa Haaaaa your right, if nothing else we are sure of who THE COMPUTER GROUP likes in the race.....

in all honesty I may take the cowards way out and bet 1 or 2 horses that I like at longer odds & play them both to place and show. If CC wins the race the exacta & most likely the trifecta will pay poorly at best...... If I can find one of the 30-1 type horses that have a shot at 2 or 3 spot they may pay $6+ if CC wins and could be monsters if CC flops......

thx for the reply honzie......

Um......I had Cali Chrome in the derby & Preakness. Also, Chromeo is way better than Big Brown, & you will see this tomorrow.

Love all the wishful thinking & the 36 year drought means absolutely nothing in this race. Cheomei doesn't know there is a 36 year drought & he will show the doubters how laughable the rest of the horses are in this field :)

Chrome will finish off the board in my opinion; he's a great horse to bet against in the Belmont. Boxing #4 Commanding Curve (15-1), #9 Wicked Strong (6-1) and #10 General A Rod (20-1) in ex/tri and betting Commanding Curve across the board as my top selection (made me good money in the Derby and is well rested).

I'm not busting your balls or anything TCG..... I've been doing alot reading in the forum the last 4 or 5 weeks & I gotta give it to ya... you had CC called way back..... & to be honest with you I want to toss CC and hope for the BIG PAYDAY... but after your info about the phone in the winner circle and the crew of people from ex-tc winners I drank the kool-aid and gotta play him

Well,

NO TRIPLE CROWN WINNER (there have only been 11 all time) has ever beat a field of more than 7 other ponies
So if CC wins tomorrow he will not only win the triple crown He will do something NO OTHER TRIPLE CROWN WINNER has done!!!!

Also CC has won 6 straight races 4 of them by MORE than 5 lengths!! one was a Grade 2 and the last 3 of which were Grade 1 if he wins tomorrow that would be 4 grade 1 wins in a row

When is the last time ANY Horse has won 4 straight grade 1 races ?????

The Whole thing is really pretty amazing if you put it in the proper perspective!!!!!

So Yes if he WINS it will be a Big thing !! and if he does get beat he will just be another has been....... but still accomplished a lot more than many others

Oh ya and he is a CAL BRED !!!!!

Smarty Jones and Big Brown were both pretty well hyped as well. Smarty was on the cover of SI leading up to the Belmont (if I'm not mistaken he was also unbeaten in his career too, so there was that added hype aspect).

Chrome is the 12th horse since 1978 trying g to become the 12th triple crown winner.......omen? There is a ton of omens towards this horse & this horse has been breaking all kind of trends in the derby & Preakness & I don't see anything changing.........Chrome will win it all!

Was right about Chrome missing the board but played the wrong longshot. After listening to Chrome's owner whine after the race, I'm glad they got what they deserved!
