Quick Write Ups

Wake -3.5

Shooting myself for not being able to get the earlier line but Wake is the better team here and in my opinion one of the best in the country. Boston College really has no stars while Wake has several. The ONLY way BC covers this spread is if Wake has a let down. If they were playing any other ACC team, I would be off this game because of the letdown situation. However, due to BC's win over UNC, I think Wake will be prepared.

Southern Miss -3
USM is a team I keep up with very well. I attend most of their games so I consider myself somewhat up to date on CUSA. The way you beat Southern Miss is a big man in the middle. With Baines graduating last year and Stone out for the rest of the year, their weakness has become even more of an issue. USM's guards, however, are excellent on the defensive and offensive ends. I've seen them exploit a zone and kill man to man defenses. Both are also very good on the break. Tulane has no big man in the middle and their leading scorer is 5'10" G Kevin Sims. Jeremy Wise and R.L. Horton will have a hay-day playing against an undersized unit. Stephens also likes to step up his game in these spots. Tulane will have to make their 3's in order to cover this spread which I am not expecting them to do. Finally, Tulane's home court blows. I could go there and be louder than the 20 Tulane alumns that will be there.

SMU +2.5
This is more of a play to coincide with my power rankings than anything. I have this game at SMU -1 and I also like how SMU matches up. Even though they rely on their guard play, they have a 7-1 center Bamba Fall. Rice has no size to speak of and very short guards. Big Bamba should be able to severely limit Rice's rebounding abiltiy, and I am hoping he'll get a few offensive ones and a few easy baskets. SMU should win straight up in my opinion. I have Rice finishing last in CUSA this year and once again this is more of a play against Rice then anything.

Two plays today. Keeping them small as these lines seem kind of trap like

Xavier -1.5
Xavier is the much more talented team here. Rhode Island likes to get up and down the court quick and score points but they dont play much defense. Xavier plays much more controlled and is a really good defensive team. They have the athletes to keep up with Rhode Island when they run, and I do not see this being a let down game.

Purdue -4
Another fishy line but I like Purdue here. There defense should give northwestern fits as northwestern is not a good shooting team. Northwestern is low on confidence losing 4 out of their last 5 and I do not see them playing lights out enough to beat a solid purdue team.

For what it's worth, my lines are -5 and -7 respectively

UTEP -3
My largest play thus far on this forum. I am not very high at all on this carolina team. I have them as a bottom tier team in cusa with utep in the top tier. UTEP has an athletic team that will destroy carolina. I particularly like UTEP's pace of play versus carolina (and for that matter most CUSA teams) because carolina does not have a deep bench. I had this line at UTEP -6 and was shocked at it being -3. This would have been a possible let down spot with UTEP traveling cross country if they would have beat Houston. However, off the loss I expect a solid game from UTEP

Houston +2.5
I expect Houston to win outright and here is why. They are one of two types of teams that absolutely destroy USM. Southern Miss has no bench. Houston's style of play will tire out Jeremy Wise and R.L. Horton by the second half. Cousins should dominate Stephens who is soft against larger competition. I like the way Kelvin and Lewis match up against Wise and Horton. Unless Southern Miss can get a big game out of its role players I see Houston running away with this one

SMU -3
I have Tulane finishing last in conference this year. They have no talent or athletism. I am just not high on them at all. Granted, I am not the largest fan of SMU, but their big seven footer bamba fall should be able to dominate the boards against the undersized Tulane team. SMU also has an advantage at guard play. These factors plus being at home made SMU a definite play for me. Tulane will have to shoot lights out and they were 0/13 in 3 pt shooting in their last outing vs. Southern Miss

UAB +13
This line kind of baffled me. Memphis has not been impressive at all this year and UAB is not a bad team. I like for their experienced guard play to break the Memphis press, and I do not expect UAB to have a let down on the Memphis home court. Robert Vaden is key here

I really like this spot here. Wake coming of win versus UNC and BC, I believe they come back down to earth here. I believe there is a lot of parity in the ACC this year, and I expect a lot of covers on homecourts.

GL this weekend everyone:toast:

wow, this houston game is getting painful to watch. sooo many lazy turnovers and missed layups. Eagles role players are playing well too.

Today: 4-2-1 +3.6 units
YTD: 8-4-1 +7.2 units
C-USA Record: 3-2-1 +3.6 units

Another positive day, and I hit my large play easily. Kind of mad at myself for taking Houston, I should have factored in a possible let down after their win over UTEP. For Clemson, I just need to move them down a bit in my rankings. I'm gonna start keeping a record of my Conference USA plays since that will be where the majority of my plays come from. Hope everyone had a good day :toast:
