I know there have been threads like this in the past but I'm wondering how many people here buy points? Do you find success in it?

I ask b/c i had a LARGE LARGE play on Ohio State-14.5 on Sat night. I understood the risk I took by laying that half point but really didnt think it would matter. I never looked at what the juice would be but i'll say -123 (FSU is 21.5 pt favs this week and saw that laying -123 would bring it to 21 so I am assuming the same).

I figured its not losing an extra 10-15% on my wager if i lost so never bothered.

I have a friend who likes to bet parlays and he buys points all the time. However, he doesnt mind a lesser payout if he could get the win.

thoughts?

I am a system/situational bettor. And it works best with dog plays. On occasion I buy a half point maybe even 1 point in the NFL because points are so important. College rarely. Whatever you win with so be it. Don't let anyone tell you not to buy.

This is the key imo

Not risking much more by buying the points, but risking the same amount you would have beforehand and simply settling for a lesser payout

I NEVER buy. It's easy to isolate the games you would have won or pushed had you bought but the math is not in your favor. In the long run you are making the game tougher to beat with extra juice.

Over the years I have found it matters most with MLB Totals

Can't tell you how many times I have saved my azz (and seen with others) by buying 1/2 run and how many times i lost because I didn't

The difference is you bet the same amount and lots of games. In your case buying probably is a negative for your style

I play some teasers when I want to buy . I don’t hit often every few weeks sometimes a lot but this year I’m still hoping for the first w. Typically I lay 300-500 on a 6-8 team 6 pt teaser . They come in clusters I try to follow the rule of not crossing zero on a fav. Green Bay fucked me this week on a 8 teamer. Gun to my head maybe a 1/2 point to get off whole number but if I add up all my wins and loses by that 1/2 point probably not close to the outcome of that game

When I can find it, I'll pay 20 cents for the 3 in the NFL and 10 cents for the 7. Also play Wong teasers -110.

If you feel like you have to buy points, why are you playing THAT game?
