Time to update the cell phone. It's been a few years. Four to be exact.
I am with ATT and do not have a contract. I plan on staying with ATT.

Question Do I need an ATT specific phone or will any unlocked phone suffice?

Since my phone is ancient, will there be any problem with sim chip compatibility?

And if anyone would like to suggest a phone, please do. I use my phone for talking and some texting. Browsing and email is not something I need.

any unlocked phone can be used... as far as sim card goes, if your sim card is really old and phone is newer phone, you will still be able to use the phone but it might be laggy and phone might not fuction properly....do you use phone to mainly just talk or you also use internet and other fetures/?

Yes, but I meant to say I don't want to sign a new contract. I hate those things, even though I continue to stay with ATT.

Not sure if he can get a Discount or deal for a New Phone. Because he says that he has No contract with them.

Updated New Phones means you need to sign either a 1 or 2 year contract.

I think CollegePro is right about Any Unlocked Phone, but the Sim card thing might be a problem. But you never know, guess you need to ask tech at AT&T
