White says McGregor will surrender a title if he wins at UFC 205
Conor McGregor wants to become the first ever simultaneous two division champion in UFC history, but it might be a short reign.
“So this fight's coming up and he wants to try to gain both belts. He will give up one of the titles after that fight in New York.”
— Dana White
As far as which title McGregor would give up, White wouldn't speculate although most believe the Irishman would struggle to get back down to 145 pounds after two fights at welterweight against Nate Diaz and now a matchup with Alvarez in the lightweight division.
"That's a good question. That's what we'll figure out," White said when speaking to ESPN about which title McGregor would give up. "He's got some stuff going on right now, some personal stuff that he'll announce when he's ready. This fight made sense."
