I've already contacted my resources earlier today about this game. My buddy's a Miller beer sales rep. They have the beer contract at the Joe. The Big House normally does not sell beer for Wolverine games but they got a special permit for this game only. So I'm hoping he comes thru. I usually don't get very excited about these Winter Classic games but this one is really going to be special. Wings/Leafs in front of over 115k in the cold outdoors. Burke/Kessel....HBO's 24/7. Been sportin wood all day long.

I pray for two things....resolve the CBA... NOW and perfect weather...just a touch of snow for atmosphere, as if you need any more.

This one will be the best of all.

Yes. It really sounds like they took their time and did their homework on this one.
These 2 Original 6 teams...in that college town and all those crazy Canadians decked out in their Leaf nation gear. Holy shit. When Toronto comes to the Joe, their the only team where their fans come in droves. Hundreds of Leaf jerseys in the crowd. And they all act like they own the place. :).
And I wasn't even really thinking how cool the old timers game might be. Sittler, Gilmour, Salming, Cujo, Wendel Clark. They need to leave Tiger Williams at home though. Hopefully Yzerman laces them up for us. Hasek, Hull, Shanahan, Mickey Redmond. I cant remember being this fired up about a game in a while.

Dude if we pulled something like that off, your damn right I'd cook. I can put together a spread with the best of them. You get um here and I'll feed them. As well as all Miller beer products and possibly tickets to the games if my buddy can work some magic. Which he usually does. Any concerts the wife and I like to go to, he comes through with tickets no worse then 10 rows from the stage. As long as Miller sponsors the venue. You like Ribs? I own at least 7-8 high end smokers/grills. I may be Bushay here but at home I'm known as the Rib King!!! :)

I'm prolly the only guy in this forum that hasn't watched even one episope of 24/7 on HBO. Either season. Going to have to see if they are on Netflix and do some catching up now for sure.

Count me in. I may try to go regardless of whether or not it is a PucksRUs meet up.

I did not watch season one but I didn't see what all the hype was about watching NYR/Philly

That should be a great atmosphere for the game - I agree with VV hope it's cold and maybe a bit of snow.

Suggest anyone interested keep southwestair.com bookmarked

They're not accepting reservations yet past Sep 28, but I see that roundtrip for TBay/Det is just a bit over $300 for late September, thus a decent indicator for later in the year

Other potential events include Det Lions and Det Pistons if they're home that week. And of course several good blues bars rock steady in that Motown area

Kayak.com is the best sites I've heard to look for airline prices. But the cheapest was a little over $400 when I looked today from TB. The GLI [Great Lakes Invitational] is a college tournament around the holidays I used to attend regularly and will be going on. We have 3 casino's in the area as well as many cool Blues/Rock/R and B bars. The Downtown Detroit area is nothing like the Detroit you hear about in the news most days.

I don't play casino poker so I've never payed much attention but I have friends that play in tournaments every week and seem to keep going back. I can ask some better questions to them if you like.

Just a thought considering the talk here. Not sure I'd be making the trip anyway but I do play a lot of tournaments here. Even if I do come to Detroit I'm not sure I'd use it to play in a tournament if it was a deep stack due to it's length. Additionaly I'm not a fan of playing in any shove fest, like a starting stack of $4,500 with 20 minute levels. But if you get a chance please ask them what are the buy ins, average number of players, how long are the levels, starting stack size, and what percentge of the entree fee is raked, (how much of your entree is paid out in the prize pool).

By the way Bushay. Is everyone up there like the trailor park/ghetto trash is see portrayed in Hard Core Pawn? (present company excluded)

How this show fails to get a Emmy nomination year after year is beyond me.

Ha ha. I watched it once and it turned me off. I like the Vegas version way better.
Hard Core Pawn is in the city of Southfield. Without trying to sound racially insensitive...The tri county Detroit area is very diverse. Southfield used to be a very big Jewish community. When Detroit was thriving, the more upper class lived in Southfield. They've more or less moved on to Bloomfield Hills. One of the wealthiest areas of the state now. When they moved on, the more successful African American population moved into Southfield. But it's not even close to the Southfield I grew up knowing. The Southfield freeway is a popular through fare from Detroit to Southfield. So I believe you see a lot of Detroit customers as well on that show. But again, I only really watched that show once, other than the commercials.
