Bush and republicans are always in favor of big business. Will destroy wildlife to make a buck. Will poison our air, water and food to make a dollar.

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration on Monday said it plans to let federal agencies decide for themselves whether highways, dams, mines and other construction projects might harm endangered animals and plants.

The proposal, which does not require the approval of Congress, would reduce the mandatory, independent reviews that government scientists have been performing for 35 years. Developers welcomed the plan, while environmentalists derided it.

Awesome! :aktion033

One of the most useless BIG-GOVERNMENT scams ever unleashed on the American people!

The "endangered species" nuts are the looniest of loons in the country. They are a BIG part of why our energy costs have gone through the roof.

Someone spots an "endangered owl" in your area and suddenly you can't build or do anything on your property. If you chop down a tree, you get fined. Your property then becomes virtually useless, plummets in value which then requires big $$$ and lots of lawyers to free yourself from this enviro-wacko insanity. And for what? Because some bird watcher claimed he saw an owl on your property? :ohno:

Bravo, President George W. Bush! :103631605

We could also burn endangered species as fuel.

The possibilities are endless.

Joe, I would think that someone who believed in ID, would be concerned about the survival of every species. Everything was put here for a reason. It's not like they randomly evolved. Therefore they should be preserved. It's God's will.

God made us rulers over the animals, Judge.

Species come, species go -- it's been happening before humans ever inhabited the Earth.

Bush wants to poison us too.

On March 13, 2008, the Environmental Protection Agency set new ozone standards that place stricter limits on the release of smog-producing air pollutants that can cause serious health effects and even premature death. But under last-minute pressure from the White House, EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson made the standards significantly less restrictive than those recommended by the agency’s scientific advisers. The White House also instructed the EPA to remove a separate standard designed to protect forests, land, soil, and crops from ozone air pollution. Research indicates that current ozone levels lead to dramatic reductions in plant and forest growth and cause adverse effects on overall ecosystem health. The EPA itself attests that ozone harms crop production and native ecosystems “more than any other air pollutant.”
Was White House Action Illegal?
According to documents released by the EPA, agency officials initially planned to set one ozone standard to protect "public health" and a more restrictive limit to protect "public welfare" (forests, farmland, wildlife, etc.), as required under the Clean Air Act, but Bush overruled them. He ordered the EPA to relax the tougher restrictions and to make both standards identical.
"It is unprecedented and an unlawful act of political interference for the president personally to override a decision that the Clean Air Act leaves exclusively to EPA's expert scientific judgment," said John Walke, clean-air director for the Natural Resources Defense Council.
The president's order sent administration officials scrambling to rewrite the regulations to avoid a conflict with past EPA statements on the harm caused by ozone and to prepare legal justifications for the weaker standard.

most likely this all has to do with a way around the nuts in congress so we can get to offshore drilling...whilst i am in favor of protection of species, think this is the way to go...

Can't drill -- bad for the environment. (Better to import 700 billion worth of oil from terrorist nations instead, while China, India and every other competitor pollute till their heart's content!)

No nuclear power -- bad for the environment.

Carbon emissions -- bad for the environment.

Incandescent light bulbs -- bad for the environment.

Plasmas and lcds -- bad for the environment.

Hairspray -- bad for the environment.

Can't build on your property because you might 'endanger' a bird most people couldn't name if you put a gun to their head -- bad for the environment.

Did I miss anything? Oh yes...cow farting -- bad for the environment.

Okay, I think it's time liberals stopped calling themselves "progressives," don't ya think?

God help us if the De-industrialization Party gains more power this Nov.

Vote for "hope and change." :ohno:

I forgot about the whales, thanks for reminding me.

Enviro-wackos want EVERY sub in the Navy fleet permanently docked because they claim the sonar hurts the whales. :missingte

What does "Mr. US Air Force Retired" think about this? :think2:

the left is a vacuum void of rational thought

just "feelings". you either have good intentions with bad results or you take advantage of those with good intentions and give them bad results

Thank you.

Still waiting for a coherent retort from someone -- ANYONE -- on the left.

Look punter, you're not a bad guy, and you needn't take this so personally.

But the leadership -- the Pelosi-Reid-Obama Don't Drill Democrats -- in your party is unhinged and unfit to govern ANYTHING or ANYONE.

You give them and their eco-fascist puppet masters more power and you'll end up living in a bird's nest -- while our emerging competitors pass us by.

Tell me, what are they for? What will they do to make your life more prosperous, safer and freer?

You think the government has a right to tell you what you can and can't do on your own property because an "endangered" bird happened to fly through your neighborhood?

Remember, the 'D' stands for DE-INDUSTRIALIZATION.
