why didn't they dispence with the formality and play the games in chicago? same fcuking thing. bud handed the pennat to the cubbies no matter what anyone thinks, those donkey's in chicago will spend millions on hat's and tee shirts in the next few weeks. don't worry you'll be able to pick them up cheap this spring at the good-will stores in the chicago land area.
why not play in tuscon.
I think the Cubs suggested the games in STL and Houston declined. Astros limited their options by stubbornly staying in Houston thinking they'd be able to play.
In any case, Houston is going to lose the WC by more than 2 games so it will be academic.
Why not play in Arlington? Or St. Louis? The weather was fine in those places. The weather excuse doesn't work for me because the weather was going to be out of the entire mid-west by Sunday/Monday. Everyone knew that.
In the end the Cubs were still going to win the NL Central and have the best record in the NL. This isn't about the Cubs. It's about the Astros being the hottest team in baseball with a chance at the Wild Card and then having to travel to Milwaukee to play the Cubs in their second home.
He threatened the Astros with forfeits if they didn't play and I personally find that asinine. Why do they have to agree with what you want them to do? It should be the home teams decision.
The weather excuse is absolute bullshit. Everyone in their right mind new the weather would be gone by then. I think the Astros would have preferred to play on the West Coast and travel then play in a place that was a road game.
The Cubs were going to win the Central regardless. This has nothing to do with the Cubs.
It rained pretty hard in St Louis Saturday and Sunday I believe. There was flooding on the Mississippi River.
That makes no sense. That series turned a lot of things around for the Astros. Momentum is everything at the end of the year and taking those two from the Cubs, if they were played somewhere else, could have changed the rest of the season for the Astros. It's a tough situation to handle but Bud handled it terribly IMO. There are only two places you can not have the Astros play a "home" game against the Cubs, Wrigley and Milwaukee, and he played them in one of those places. It's simply unacceptable.
Rain had been done by Sunday in St. Louis. The White Sox played a double header in Chicago on Sunday. They had taken more water than St. Louis. St. Louis was easily an accessible site for the game. The storm was out of Chicago by Sunday mid-day, and it was out of St. Louis by late Saturday night. They could have played there if the White Sox played in Chicago on Sunday.
The storm was moving from the south to the north so it was out of St. Louis first.
Bud said they played in Milwaukee because they have a dome. I believe he was doing the Cubs a favor since Selig is trying to position one of the Brewer minority owners to buy the Cubs over Mark Cuban.
The first White Sox game started about 4:00 local time. Don't matter, Selig and McClain messed up.
