People are making a huge deal of the 13 years. But the latest rumors were for 10 years at 330 million. So basically the same total amount just spread over more years. I think the Phillies and every fan realize he won't be a $30 mil per year type player those last 3 years, probably not even the last 5 years. I'm sure the Phillies would be thrilled with 8 great years out of him for that contract.

$25,384,684 per year
$69,547 per day
$2,898 per hour
$48.30 per minute every minute
$.80 cents per second every second for 13 years

So if he takes a shit and he’s in there for 10 min and a few seconds over he’s made $500.

He will make more PER AT BAT than the average yearly salary of a person living in Philadelphia.

Heres my guess on Harper.

MLB players reach their prime (on avg) at age 29. He is 26. So his next 3-5 should be the best of his career. Years 6-8 will be on the downslope. Years 7-11 the whole league will have the DH by then, so that could be his role. Years 10-13, who knows, throw away years, cut, retire, career ending injury, what ever.

The phillies lineup is gonna be a tough one. You have to throw strikes to A LOT of great hitters in a hitters park.

The 13 years isn't relevant. Harper is guaranteed all the money. The Phils can buy out the remaining years of his contract. If Harper is a part time player in 36 the Phillies will simply pay him off and he will retire. What is does do is spread the cost over 13 years

Probably the most overpaid ballplayer in history, he really isn't that great. He is below average defensively, almost a liability, should really be a DH. Sure any team would make room for him to get his bat in the lineup, but for that kind of money, I want a guy that at least is average with the glove, he could very well be crap by age 33. Certainly not a guy I'd lock up for life.

What will Aaron Judge command as a salary when his time comes ? A bit older but much better than Harper, maybe 5 years and 200 million ?

This won't end well, it never does.

It's a lock he will not finish his career there which is the entire point of signing this contract.

Over under is him traded/ leaving/ going to prison at 5.5 years

surprising move from the phillies imo. i think they are more than capable of winning without him.
you'll never know what you'll get with bryce. one year MVP winner, next year batting 240s. his obp will always be good but still. even his defense isn't consistent either.
