LAS VEGAS - The Bruins failed to top off their season with a Stanley Cup, but here on a hot afternoon in the desert, with the Garden ice long melted down a Causeway Street drain, goalie Tim Thomas, defenseman Zdeno Chara, and coach Claude Julien copped three of the game’s most prestigious awards in an end-of-the-year hardware hat trick.

Thomas, eyes watery and voice choked with emotion, received the Vezina Trophy as the game’s top netminder.

The towering Chara, humbled to the point of nearly being mesmerized, collected the Norris Trophy as the top defenseman, voters clearly adopting the literal translation of the award.

And Julien, saying later that he gladly would have sacrificed any personal award for his goalie and defenseman to leave here as winners, picked up the Jack Adams Award as best coach.

Would have been nice to see them in the cup finals... Pitt and Detroit were both lackluster this season. Still having trouble getting over the playoff loss to Carolina... ^<<^

Yeah I feel the same way, that game seven loss to the Canes was a tough one to take after feeling so confident going into the game.

All the awards the B's players and coach got were very well deserved...its nice to see a guy like Thomas get the Vezina after working long and hard to just get a spot on an NHL team...he is finally getting the recognition he has been deserving of.

Detroit was near or at the top all year. Pens were one of, if not the hottest teams down the stretch. That's why they have the playoffs.

Both are quality teams... IMHO, it would have been nice to see a different matchup other than what we've seen the past 2 cups.. Then Bettman has them play 3 games in 4 days...Busch League move...

Bettman does seem to be a hated man. Being a Pens fan I was quite happy with the matchup.
