Bruins get back on the ice to raise championship banner, defend Stanley Cup. Have to be worst 10-1 shot to repeat as champs in history of sport.

T, Hawk - I think I said all that in the first two sentences of this thread:

As much as I love the Boston Bruins (going back to the late 1950s) I give them next to no chance of repeating their recent "Perfect Storm" of a Stanley Cup winning season again this year...

If you like burning money, bet on the Bruins to repeat - as much as I hate to say this - it just is not happening...Repeats are simply not the nature of Hockey these days...Especially to a marginally good only team like The Bruins..The last team to repeat were the very talented 1996 and 1997 Detroit Red Wings.

Wilheim, just thought I would break it down for people who don't know why you said that... They had a stable of horseshoes up their ass and a field of 4 leaf clovers last year.

I understand but it wasn't all luck - the Bruins had a red hot goalie going for them which historically over the years has won the odd Cup almost single handedly...I remember Ken Dryden standing on his head and beating the nearly unbeatable 1971 Boston Bruins for Montreal..

That is the old NHL, pre-lockout. Before that if you did not have a Vezina or HOF goalie you did not stand a chance to win. Now post lockout goalie not as big a deal and do not need the HOF level goalie to win. Look at the goalies of the cup winners post and pre lockout. One thing is the overall level of goaltending is much higher across the board than before... Goalies are more inconsequential than before...

Tim Thomas is the exception that proves the rule. Thomas posted a 1-0 shutout in Game 7 of the Conference playoff series, helping him win the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP. He also won his second Vezina Trophy as the league’s top goalie in the regular season.

He defeated The Rival Tampa Bay Lightning Saturday night 4-1 making 25 saves..Tyler Sequin played 3rd line center on the center heavy Bruins against the Lightning picking up a pair of helpers (He has also hit a couple of posts so far during this young season)...Last year was his rookie year and he was unsure of himself much of the time. He is like a new player now and ready to take his rightful place among the top Bruins night in and night out..Players no matter how talented make a big jump from junior hockey to the NHL. Sequin has made his so lets see where he ends up after his sophomore season.

Back to Thomas, nobody shuts out a team like The Lightning and The Canucks (Canucks on their own ice) in game seven of a Conference and Stanley Cup final back to back....Tim Thomas did it..
