are putting it to TX today!! Pearl is one of the top coaches in the nation and uses an old Tom Davis style of hoops that works well with the players he has. Always hoped Iowa would rehire him as their headcoach.

I love it! As a Clemson alum, I was really burned when Barnes left us after just starting to build a program to take more money with Texas. I love it when his talented Longhorns' squads underachieve much like they are today after getting their heads kicked in by Duke. In retrospect, I'm much happier having Oliver Purnell than I think I ever could be with Barnes, as good as he was for the program for the few years he was there.

Yeah Viking, Pearl is a helleva coach (too bad he got black-balled for so long)... He coached Division II Southern Indiana here in Evansville (built a dynasty here)

He'll have to win right away in Knxoville, as they are notorious for being impatient with coach (have also made some bad hires, imo)

This would a VERY nice win for the program, even though, the Longhorns are way overrated :103631605

know very well what he did at Southern Indiana. he's one of the best motivators I've been around in my life...when he spoke, you listened. He's a good recruiter...can't say enough good things about how good a coach he is.

OBTW - Did he learn how to cheat from Dr. Tom?

Look at the "good" Drs record at Boston College- he was known as THE SNAKE.

Barney Rubble at Iowa - just clapped his hands, held his breath and made talented athletes AVERAGE!

Bruce Pearl is a scumbag. Ask Jimmy Collins, Deon Thomas, or any Illini fan.

Pretty good coach, though.

Agreed. I'm an Illini grad and I have to admit that this guy is an excellent coach whose teams play tougher than their opponents.

Bruce Pearl: 'There's no time to reflect' on first Elite Eight

ST. LOUIS -- What did it mean? How did he feel?
Tennessee senior Wayne Chism was succinct after Saturday's 76-73 upset of Ohio State. "Blessed," he said. "Real blessed."
He's a part of history. Through all the years and all the NCAA tournament appearances -- a total of 17, dating to 1967 -- the Volunteers had never before played into the Elite Eight. They're there now, carrying a No. 6 seed into Sunday's Midwest Regional final against Michigan State in St. Louis.
The wait has bordered on excruciating. The Vols had reached five previous regional semis, and lost each one. Coach Bruce Pearl was 0-for-3, falling once in the semis with Wisconsin-Milwaukee and twice at Tennessee.
This team knocked off second-seeded Ohio State as Chism scored 18 of his 22 points in a decisive second half. Tennessee outrebounded the Buckeyes 24-14 and outscored them 28-10 in the paint in those 20 minutes.
The short turnaround time allowed precious little time to celebrate the achievement, however. Pearl and his staff worked well into Saturday night.
"This is no time to reflect. This is time to prepare for our next game. I'm happy. I'm proud. I'm proud to tears. I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am, but we've got work to do now. We've got to prepare for a game. We'll reflect when the season's over." -- Steve Wieberg

Pearl not interested in Iowa job

ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
03/26/2010

Vols' Pearl says no about Iowa's job

Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl said Thursday he was not interested in the vacancy at Iowa, where he worked as an assistant coach from 1986 to '92. But he did take advantage of a question about the job to recommend Vols assistant Steve Forbes.

"I'm here at Tennessee and going to be at Tennessee and I'm grateful to be at Tennessee," Pearl said.

He added that he has not had any contact with Iowa athletics director Gary Barta since the firing of Todd Lickliter. Forbes hasn't been contacted either. <SCRIPT language=javascript type=text/javascript><!-- // beginDisplayAds("Frame1","","");// --></SCRIPT>

"I have a lot of Iowa guys on my staff," Pearl said. "If they don't hire a head coach and hire an assistant, Steve Forbes is a guy I hope they look at."

Forbes is a native of Lone Tree, Iowa. He worked as an assistant previously at Texas A&M, Illinois State and Louisiana Tech.

Chism power — A consistent four-year career has landed center Wayne Chism among the Tennessee career leaders in many categories. He is first in games played with 140, second in blocked shots (151) and sixth in rebounding (916).

His versatility is reflected by 127 career 3-pointers, the most by a Tennessee post player. But maybe most impressive is that the 6-foot-9 senior has the most wins by any Vol with 103.

"He's a big man that can do things inside and outside, offensively and defensively," Pearl said. "Our ability to take advantage of him in both areas will be important as far as the outcome."
